Shower Head Issues!

Shower Head Issues!

For some reason the fixture in our shower is very low and Mr Boots would have had to duck to wash his hair, so he put a massage shower head into our shower in the beginning of January. It was a Waterpik and was great for about 2 months.

2 weeks ago the face became loose and when I took it off the hook to inspect it, it more or less disintegrated in my hands! The whole thing came apart like I had smashed it!

We replaced it immediately with a new and better massage shower head (Hansgrohe). This morning I turn on the shower and the face plate is loose again! I take it down to inspect it and again it breaks apart like I took a hammer to it!

What could be causing this?? Mr Boots thinks it's the water, I suspect he's not installing them correctly, and we've both accused the other of swinging it around like a lasso!

Has anyone else had this problem? What could the problem be?

we don't have that type of shower head at my house so i can't help you with that. but the idea of you swinging the shower head around like a lasso really makes me laugh.

yes, it could be that you need a water softener because the acid or whatever in the water is eating the shower head. good luck

What is the face made of? Is it plastic?

How is the water pressure? Could it be too strong and that's what making it come loose?

Sarah, I think it's hard water. When Mr Boots suggested it might be the water corroding the shower heads I screamed 'Well what's it doing to our skin? Are we melting??'

Beth, We'll give that a try. I think a fixed head is our only solution. But now Mr Boots is threatening to rip out the whole stall and put in a tub which means I'll, no doubt, be using a garden hose for 3 weeks.

Farah, the face always remains intact, the innerworkins, which are plastic, appear to have snapped and cracked, like so many Rice Krispies. That's what's causing the face plate to loosen, I think. Maybe it is the pressure though!

One time, in my old house, the water came out rusty and I thought it was blood for a minute because my father had been talking about bleeding the pipes! I was only 9!
