my FMIL informed me she is throwing me a shower this summer- which is pretty surprising since we do not get along too well. But the problem is it seems she is paying for it, but is expecting me to actually set it up- favors, guest list, games, etc. I have NEVER been to a bridal shower (my sister's friend threw her shower when she got married, and of the few girlfriends I have I am the first to get married). HELP!!! Whats an appropriate number of guests? What kind of favors? How long do they last? Brunch or lunch? I do not even know where to begin....

20-30 people ( I think there were about 26 people at mine)
go to any favor site and look up bridal shower favors there are tons!
google bridal shower games and you will find tons of stuff.

Whats an appropriate number of guests? you can invite as many people or as little people as you want, but it would depend on the location and how many people you can actually hold comfortably. include family and friends and anyone else that you would like to share your special day with you.
What kind of favors? again, you can choose any favor that you want, try bluerainbowdesign.com for some ideas, they have a really great selection!
How long do they last? Bridal showers generally last about 4 hours, and have been that long to every bridal shower that I have been to. Either 12-4 or 1-5
Brunch or lunch? you can choose! a brunch or lunch are totally different foods so you can go with a more breakfast-y theme or more lunch foods. either way, you guys will have a blast!
I do not even know where to begin....
i put my answers in bold....you can also choose to add games that you can find online if you do a google search on bridal shower games and if you can, maybe make a playlist on your ipod to have some music going in the background for background noise during the shower. other than that, let your BM help out and plan some of it for you!

We had 37 people at mine, and it was from 1-5. We were served lunch/dinner, and we had wine and champagne. We played 3 games, a purse scavenger hunt, how well does the bride know the groom (for each wrong answer, i had to put a piece of gum in my mouth), and bridal shower bingo.
For favors we gave out wedding cake sugar cookies and chocolate covered oreos. I have been to showers where i have gotten candles, measuring spoons, trivets, cupcakes etc.
