Shower help / opinion

Hi all!
My mother is paying for my shower and part of my wedding. She is trying to keep it a small simple shower so that she can give me more money towards the actual wedding. My parents house is small and cannot hold many people.
My aunt has a big, gorgeous house in central jersey and she has offered to host the party to help my mom save money.
The thing is she lives out of the way from pretty much everyone but myself (I live in Maryland)
Most of the people who are coming would be coming from LI or Westchester.

DO you think it is crazy to ask people to travel so far?
It is at least a 3 hour trip from LI.

I think it depends. If your shower is going to be just close family they probably won't mind the drive that much, but it sounds as if you may be inviting more than just immediate relatives if you are moving it to your aunts for space reasons. 3 hours is kind of a lot for a shower so you just run the risk of ppl saying they cannot attend. Maybe your mom can host a smaller scale shower at her home? Or maybe do an outdoor event closer to Long Island? Or you can look into restaurants and just do a buffet style brunch? HTH!

i think the sentiment is sweet but i would never make people drive that far away for a shower. your mom can still throw a relatively simple shower without haveing to go so far away.
try looking a family style restuarants or places that have buffet style. also, try a brunch or breakfast shower instead of lunch food. all little things that add up to a lot of money in savings.

I have to agree with above

It will be rough for people to make it, it was def sweet but Id be worried people wouldn't come bc it is so far

if it was a wedding they are traveling to thats one thing, but for a shower, a 3 hour drive is a longgg day!

sorry hun...can your mom have it at her home??

Sorry I agree as well. My cousin wants to have my shower in CT where she lives - but I know that no one is going to travel that far. My FMIL has to travel from FL to NY and then to CT?! it just seems a bit much to me
