So I am the MOH for my best friends wedding next spring. The bridesmaids are paying for her shower. She wants a venue that isn't a restaurant and has a home-shower feel. The bridesmaids and her aunts/cousins are doing all the food- all cold salads and tea sandwiches. The only thing is we need s venue. We are open to queens/Brooklyn/long island- Nassau county. We are trying to keep the costs low since the bridesmaids are paying for it. I know VFW halls are an option but I dont have first hand knowledge of any. Also, we want a place with a kitchen area since we are bringing in the food and decorations.

Fire Houses also have rooms you can rent. We've used one twice for my sister and it was very cheap.

Also - do any of the girls or close family members involved live in some gated community with a club house? (such as grandma in a 55+ community?) That's another usually cheap option and has a home-feel. Some don't rent out rooms and some do...I've been to a bridal shower at one though.

The firehouse also did have a full and very large kitchen to use. The club house had more of a kitchenette but we also did wraps and cold stuff that day so we didn't need an oven or anything to be kept warm which was easy. I imagine the kitchen/kitchenette is common in other fire houses and club houses.
