If I am getting married in the Dominican Republic and only a few family and friends are attending do I still have a shower? My mom says yes...I just feel like it is asking people for gifts.

I say Yes, but only the people who will be invited to the shower you can have one and invite everyone ( including guys) if the wedding is small

I agree! You should totally do a 'jack & jill' shower.

Yes. But you should have your bridal party or mom throw it for you so it doesn't seem like you're fishing for gifts! And only invite those who are also being invited to the wedding (but not limited to the yes responses - you can invite to the shower those you're inviting to the wedding who you know aren't able to go).

to be honest it will probably only be my our, parents, brothers and sisters. I know a few of fh's friends will come to dr but not mine...they have kids and wouldn't travel with them. So I only planned on sending invites to those people....should I send to my friends even though I know they won't come?

I think you should invite your friends. I have out of town friends who always invited me to their showers, kids' baptisms, etc., and even though they knew I couldn't make it, it always made me feel so good that they thought enough of me to send me an invitation! I firmly believe that it should be the invited's decision whether they should come or not; it shouldn't be the party thrower's decision whether they think a guest would or wouldn't make it. This way, hurt feelings are avoided. You should invite your friends to both things, as well as close relatives, and make it their call what they will come to.

I agree only invite those people that are being invited to the wedding. Also, you shouldn't throw your own shower.
