Shower-Poll!!!

Shower-Poll!!!

OK, here is the situation. My sis is my Maid of Honor and my best friend is my Matron of honor. For my best friend's shower, her mom decided to make it at a fancy catering hall and though I offered, she didn't want us to chip in because it was very expensive. So I made very elaborate chocolate favors, bought the games and the prizes and chipped in for a gift. Now I am getting married and my sis wants to ask my best friend to chip in for my shower (about $300) Do you think that's fair?

Re: Shower-Poll!!!

Etiquette says that immediate family members of the bride should NOT host the bridal shower. That being said, my mom is COMPLETELY handling mine because no one else offered. So, YES, I think your MOH should chip in.

yes i think she should chip in... if 300 is too much, then at least something..

I agree.. she should definitly chip in.. Its not your fault her mom wanted a big fancy hall thing for hers.. and besides you offered to chip in... on what would probably have been alot more expensive then yours is going to be!!

I guess I am the odd ball here. I do not think it is right that the person hosting the shower asks the bridesmaids for help....In my family, my mother did all three of our showers and did not ask for help...I guess it is different if a parent is deceased or does not have the money, but if they have the money I do not think they should ask for help...just my opinion

i think it depends - did your sister ask the other BM's for their input???

i have an issue if your sister did all the planning herself and now wants $$ from people. personally, if i am contributing, i think i should have some say in what goes on - size, place, etc. JMO!!

normally the BP does chip in the shower, so i don't think it's an unusual request to ask the BP for $$. i also got lucky, in that my mom felt all of my BM's had other expenses (babies, houses), so my mom didn't ask for anything from them.

According to the etiquette police (hee hee) family (i.e., mom, sisters) should not be throwing the shower at all because essentially (or way back when people actually cared about proper etiquette) it was seen as soliciting gifts. So yes, MOH should chip in.

My BP WISHES my mother wasn't involved, but that's another story.
