Shower Question

Shower Question

Please be honest ladies-- I need help with this one

My mom told me last night that she is throwing my shower (My Godmother gave me my bridal shower so this is the first mom is doing --ever !!I have 3 brothers!!!)

So she tells me she wants to do it in June--the dilemma I am not due until Oct 1st----

In my opinion this is too too early--not because of fear of something happening or anything but it just seems odd to me

I tried to tell her that Aug would be better but she sort of didnt want to budge---

I will only be in weeks 22-25 or so in June--does this matter or not?

I know one reason is because they didnt want to wait until Sept (fear of me going early) and then the summer

Opinions--I know you ladies have them

What week were you in at your shower? or earliest a Mom to Be has been at a shower you attended---

Any 'ammunition' would be great as well!!!

Re: Shower Question

Do you know why your Mom is so adament about June? Tell her part of the fun is everyone seeing your big belly, which is true! I would hope she would keep in mind what you'd prefer if there is no specific reason for June. If you've tried to be honest about your feelings to no avail...

...here's fib if you need one for ammunition...

Tell her that alot of the new products come out the end of June/early July and you'd like to see if you'd prefer to put a newer model of an item on your registry.

Let us know how it goes

Edited to add: Luke was born in Oct and mine was in August which was perfect IMO. I can't remember being at one where the Mom to be was 1/2 way through the pregnancy. I think 1-2 months prior is the usual that I've attended.

Re: Shower Question

I'm having the opposite problem, my mom is throwing my shower when I'll be 36 weeks. There's no budging on it, and I've learned to deal with it.

In your case, I'd try to persuade your mom to wait a few more weeks. Like Elizabeth said, fib a little if you have to. If that won't work, there is honestly nothing wrong with having it early, but showing of the belly is a must!

Re: Shower Question

I agree the BIG BELLY is the most fun and exciting part. At 20-22 weeks, is when you should just start feeling a difference in your clothes, and probably 'really showing' even after that (of course this is TOTALLY different in most cases).

Mine was also 2months before I was due and it was nice to have everyone rub my belly and look at how I was carrying and take their guesses.... Tell your mom you want everyones guesses and you have to be BIG to do these preggo things

Why is she so set on June?

Let us know how it goes

ETA: TRish, YIKES, 36 weeks! I cant imagine having my shower right now
Well I was at my SILs baby shower this past weekend and it wasnt so bad. I was sitting a nice amount of the time

Re: Shower Question

I agree with the big belly thing too...
I don't think I've ever been to a shower that wasn't close to the do date...
Try and talk to her about it.

Re: Shower Question

I think people usually have their showers 2 months before their EDD. Talk to her again and tell her that part of the fun is for everyone to see your big belly.

I think later would be better & I too agree about seeing the big belly!

Re: Shower Question

I agree with the ladies. You'r best bet would be August, but I'm not one to talk. I had my shower on Long Island when I was 20 weeks with friends and family. My friends here in GA. are throwing me another shower the end of March, my EDD is April 29th. I have found myself still putting things together and away in the baby's room. I have so much stuff I don't even know what to do with half of it...
There must be a reason why she is pushing June???

Re: Shower Question

That is definitely early!! Mine was June 1st and my EDD was July 3rd. Perfect!

Tell her you don't want to store all of your gifts for 4 months!!

Re: Shower Question

I agree that's too early for a shower.

There is someone else in my DH family who is due the exact same time as me! It's a big deal in the family b/c she has been trying to conceive for 5 years. So I think they are trying to push for an early shower for me?! so they can do hers afterward! Anyway I say all this to say maybe there is some deep down reason why your mom is pushing to do this so early.

Please let us know and please convince her to wait!!! I agree part of the fun of the showers is the belly and the guessing games! Good luck!

ETS: Perhaps your mom is just super excited!

Are you Jewish?

My Mom would be like too bad and throw me a shower anyway with just my family.

My sister is jewish and I am sad I can't have a shower for her when it is her time

(please don't take offense if you are jewish, all good intentions here )

As for the shower I was due the end of Sept and mine was held the beginning of Aug. I think that June is really early and agree with the big belly reason.

Maybe your DH can talk to her.

Re: Shower Question

My shower was June 1st and I was due 7/23/03, had the baby on 7/22/03, so I thought it was perfect.

The big belly part is the best, especially when you play the string game and things like that. I loved being pregnant, just wish I wasn't on bedrest..

Let us know what happens

Jen, will they do it after the baby is born. There is a Jewish lady here at work and we threw her a shower, that was her only shower, she enjoyed it immensly. I love showers. I think all mommies should get a shower.

Laura, tell your mom you would prefer it closer to your due date. I don't think its fair that she chooses the date. That is way too early.

I also think that is waay too early-I am due before you in August and I told my mom not to even think of having the shower until July-I want the big belly

Re: Shower Question

Thanks ladies--especially for the ammunition!!!

Since I think we plan on finding out ( I hate neutral things) my cousin (who is planning the shower) suggested using that as a reason--

I wont find out till late May what I am having--will need a month to register--then a month for invites-- so hopefully we will get her till begining of Aug-- I might push my 30th birthday (7/31) and say that would be a nice way to celebrate with a shower!!!

Thanks for the help
I of course will keep you posted

Re: Shower Question

Another thing you could use is if you wait till it's closer you will know more of the babies size. If you have a big or little baby you will need different size clothing.
