shower question...

shower question...

my friends shower is this weekend, and i'm a matron of honor ( cause shes getting married after me ) so i am planning her shower with her maid of honor and her neighbor ( who's house its gonna be at)
now... the maid of honor made a suggestion that we buy thank you cards to the wedding and have the guests address them so the bride doesn't have to address them later... is it me or does this kinda seem a little tacky? i mean to me, these people are spending time to come to the shower and money on gifts... should they really be expected to practically write their own thank you note, too?
now this is only the second shower i was involoved in, so i really don't know.... is this a common thing or not??

A great thing to do instead is to buy the bride the cards and stamps!

I filled out an thank you envelope at a shower and I felt like I was at work! Then, the card came to me and it wasn't even in the envelope that I had filled out!

well, I would ask her if she would want her shower guests to address their own thank you's! ick! how did she even come up with this idea??

Yes, very tacky! I know I will not mind writing a thank you to each person who gives us a gift, it's the least I can do!

Re: shower question...

THey did this at one baby shower I went to...we didn't know what they were up to, they asked us to write our address on a blank envelope...they later did a raffle with it.... I didn't mind it. It's nice to buy the bride thankyous as an aside I think. My mom did that for me (she didn't know I already bought them as well....!)

That's just plain weird!!! Doesn't she get wedding thank-yous with the invitation package? Why would you buy them? I think I'd feel like I was being put to work if I had to fill out my own thank you at a shower. I wouldn't want my guests to have to do that, they're supposed to enjoy themselves and the thank you is supposed to come from the happy couple 100%. Def ask the bride tho and see what she wants, then just go with it either way. If she doesn't like the idea then just tell the other MOH what she said.

Re: shower question...

Any bride with an ounce of organization has a guest list full of address done before a shower. She can very easily use her invitation list to access the addresses of the people who came to her shower. This shouldnt be a project.

One of my step-cousins did that and we all thought it was in very poor taste

One of my BM's mentioned that she wanted to do this for me at my shower, and she thought it was a great idea, but I quickly told her not to worry because I have all of the addresses on the computer so I can make labels if I wanted to!!!

Re: shower question...

I can imagine that for a baby shower (new mommies have it pretty rough), but new brides just shouldn't need that much assistance!

oooh!! thank you!! this is how i can approach it with the other maid of honor without seeming bitchy! caues i know the bride has all her stuff organized on the computer- so i'll just tell the other MOH that it'll be easy for the bride to print out the address list ( she doesn't see the bride as much as i do cause she lives further away, so this would be new info for her thanks! LOL

Re: shower question...

i just went to a baby shower where they did this- after everyone wrote their adresses on th envelope they had a drawing and someone won a gc to a spa...

it didn't seem tacky at all. i think it is a little much for the wedding, but fine for a shower...it will save the bride to be SO much work!!

Re: shower question...

It won't be tacky if you use the addresses as a raffle for a nice gift... I have seen this done and no one thought bad of it... They had all the guests fill out there name and address on envelopes at the beginning of the shower and placed them in a fish bowl... At the end of the shower the pulled an envelope out of the bowl and the person who's name was on the envelope won a Coach Wristlet... Just an idea

I don't like the idea. My matron of honor's mother does this for all shower parties she is involved in and I have never liked the idea so I have already spoken with my sister to let her know that I think it is tacky and would much rather pick my own thank yous anyway.

My mom just had to do this at a shower he was at. and people even TOLD the BP that it was TACKY as HELL.

Sorry, I don't care if I offend anyone, that is the TACKIEST and most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of. I went out of my way to get you a gift, wrap it, pick out a card, write it out and show up. You can address my envelope. Thats the most ridiculous and tacky thing I've ever heard of in my entire life!

Re: shower question...

Unfortunately for the bride, this is not something she has control over because the shower is usually a surprise and she doesn't know it is going to happen (the addressing thing, that is). So I would not hold it against the bride BUT for those planning showers: most people will not appreciate having to fill out their own envelope!
