Shower question

Shower question

Okay so a lot of you ladies have been talking about your showers and I have a question. I'm what you would call an 'older bride' and have been living on my own for a long time. So, I feel kind of weird having a shower, don't get me wrong, I'd love to have one but do you think people will find it strange?

My sister in law was talking about giving me my shower but I'm not sure if I should register for anything. Any thoughts?

Re: Shower question

Im one of the older ones here and I want a shower. I have been to every darn bridal and baby shower for the past 12 or so years for my friends. I waited for many years and now I want my turn. Sure I have a toaster oven but I never bought fine china when I lived alone and didnt entertain. And I want to wear the doofy hat with ribbons and bows. We all want our moments!!! And trust me - nobody (except LIW brides) thinks I am strange for wanting one.

ETA:

Thats not true - they think I am weird because I love cheese.

There's no reason why you shouldn't have a shower. No matter what age you are. You're still the bride...enjoy it!

Thanks! Okay so we can relate to one another and I totally hear what you're saying. I've gone to everyone else's stuff and just like you said, I never purchased myself fine china or things like that.

Okay, I think I'm going to tell her to do it. Yay!

By the way, not such a big fan of cheese but I LOVE the wine that goes with it, does that count for anything?

I dont really drink but since you are in the old folks club with me, I'll let it slide.

Thanks Hmm, maybe I haven't made myself look so good, as I re-read what I wrote, I know appear to be a 90 year old alcoholic!

I'm also an older bride (and based on the age thread, I think the oldest), and I want a shower. My problem, all my really close friends (the ones I've known forever) no longer live on LI. If I get one it will be very very small, and in all probablity will wind up being mostly people from work and it will look like I have no friends.

I agree! Definitely have one - you deserve it. My father's business associate just got married, and his now wife was 45 (first marriage), and she had a shower. No one commented that they thought that was out of the ordinary - actually they just commented on how happy they were for her cause she was SO happy.

Re: Shower question

If i was invited to someones shower who was 'older' I wouldnt think it was weird AT ALL!!!

ALL brides need a shower. Regardless of age. Maybe since you have lots of the 'necessities' you can have a theme shower. Is there a room in your house you were thinking (hoping) of re-doing? Maybe holiday gifts for decorations/plates/etc. You could have a lingerie shower, wine shower, the list is endless

Re: Shower question

Every bride deserves to be showered with love and gifts before her big day. No matter what your age, it is your speical day. If they are happy for you (and how could they not be?), they will want to celebrate with you.
If you already have a lot of stuff you need, register for stuff you want! I'm sure you'd be able to find plenty of things. If not, pick up a new hobby that you'll need lots of supplies for!!

Re: Shower question

you can have a shower!!! - just register for new things. like the DYSON vaccum, everything kitchen-aid, you can even put your honeymoon on a registry (that would rock) and i would try to register for everything and anything you want.

what is the worst that can happen - you don't get it?? you never needed it anyway - you have nothing to lose.

but i do think it is a tradition you should uphold - it will be fun and you will love every minute of it.

Re: Shower question

I went to a bridal shower where the bride asked for no presents, but to bring a dish to pass with the recipe. I heard of different types of bridal showers where no presents were involved, check on the internet.

But, don't you want to upgrade?!?!? I have everything too, but I'm getting upgrades and dontating my older stuff to charity.
