Do you invite the wives/girlfriends of your male friends or coworkers to your shower if you don't know them at all or aren't close to them just because they're getting an invite to the wedding?
How does that work? I say no, but want to know what's the proper thing to do.

If you don't know them, I would say don't invite them. I didn't get invited to too many showers of my male friends wives or my FH's friends wives, just the ones that I'm friendly with (the ones I talk to without my FH being around).

Everyone you invite to the shower is supposed to be invited to the wedding. However, the shower can include only your close friends and family and FH's family and that's just fine.
My shower had 40 people, which I felt was way too large for me, personally. By the time I said hello to everyone, thanked them for coming, etc. my food was cold and I couldn't even really enjoy my party. I think I would have enjoyed it MUCH more if it was a smaller crew (around 15 women). On the flipside though, the more people you invite, the more gifts are purchased for you from your registry so it's yin and yang.
