Shower Question

Shower Question

Hi Girls – I am really struggling with some logistics for my shower so I’m looking for some expert insight. FH and I moved to Virginia 2 years ago but all of our family friends are in NY so of course my shower is going to be held there. It is going to be the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend because that is when FH and I can make it to town (we also don’t want to deal with winter weather/holidays so we are getting it out of the way early). The issue I am having is how do we ask guests to please not bring gifts to the shower and instead have them shipped to our home in VA? Anyone have a cute poem or a nice way to say this that my MOH can include with the invite that people will not find offensive? Ideally I would like to have a wishing well only at the shower and I would open those gifts as well as cards where people can put pictures of what they had shipped to me. Has anyone done this before or been to a shower where the bride did this? We are hoping to have the invites sent out in the next week or two but I have no idea what to write in the insert regarding gifts. HELP!

Re: Shower Question

Hey Melissa, it's Jess. I tried to research a little and everywhere says that it's rude to even imply giving a gift (even though the point of a shower is to 'shower' with gifts???).

If I were you I would either have people spread the message by word of mouth or I would make up a little poem or saying. Maybe something like 'Any gifts you wish to give, please send to the address at which we live'? Good luck!

I believe if you register on amazon the shipment automatically goes to your home unless the person requests otherwise. so an option.

Also, i think its totally fine if you write it in the invite that gifts should be sent to your home. People understand where you live so makes total sense.

Our showers are on the same day! I would have them write it on the invite.

YAY!!! I was a little worried about picking Thanksgiving weekend but when we went thru the list we realized most people don't travel that weekend anyway. I am so excited, its going to make the wedding feel that much closer!

Thanks for the suggestions girls, all very helpful. I think we have decided to spread by word of mouth as people RSVP and as my mom, sister and bridal party talk to people about it. Hopefully that will be enough to reach most of the guests and whatever gifts we do get we will deal with shipping or wait until we drive back to VA one time. Thanks for the help :)

I think on many registries you can put your shipping address as your Virginia address and it will go there - you may even be able to put it on the registry website as the preferred option (as opposed to store pick up)

Hey Melissa and Jess, it's Kara :)
