So let me start by saying I hope I don't sound like a spoiled brat...
Ok that said: I don;t think I'm having a shower. My family (my mom, my sisters, all my mom's friends) live in Toronto and I'm here. I don't have aunts. As far as I know nobody in Toronto asked my mom/sister about throwing me a shower. I know this because I mentioned to my sister about it and she said she spoke to my mom who said she can't ask people to do it they have to offer.
I don't know how showers work. Some people are saying family can't throw it for you, it has to be like friends of your mom. I'm so confused and sad that I may not get a shower. My FMIL is here and so is FSIL and 2 of my BMs - and I'm close with FH's aunt and his mom's best friend- would they be people who could do it?
I'm kinda upset because we didnt have an e-party and I doubt I'll have a shower and it just s*cks that we seem to be missing out on some of the fun parts of wedding planning because my family doesnt live here.
I vented a bit to my sis (MOH) today and I feel sooo bad because she wants to do everything but she's 21, lives in Canada and is a student and she tries so hard. I don't even want something big, just at someone's house but just something.
I dunno. Guess I just needed to vent. My sis, one of my BMs (who lives here) and FH all know I'm a bit upset about this so maybe they'll try to do something. I just feel like I'm missing out.
I'm not having one either and I tried to get one arranged and it didn't work out and became a hassle... its upsetting i know... but i guess some of us aren't as lucky....
My mom thinks its rude to have a bridal shower- she thinks its just to ask for gifts...
My mom and family threw mine but they are local--I know that when I was dealing with drama with my family, FH offered to ask him family to host one instead since they are easier to deal with than my family.
Have you suggested FH ask his family to throw something small, even in one of their homes?

yeah thats exactly what i've been trying to do...he said he would look into it but was also like 'i dont know who is supposed to do that....'
Honestly, if you don't have a lot of family here then throw your own shower. It might be a little uncommon, but, if your FMIL isn't going to do it and your family is in another country just do it yourself. Keep it small, and that we you still have the experience and not go over the top. Maybe a small brunch with some friends.
Usually your mom and MOH will throw you the shower, thats always how I've known it to be. I don't see why your moms friends would throw you the shower, their just her friends, it's not like their in your bp or anything. I mean of course anyone could throw it for you, but usually it's the mom and MOH
You dont sound spoiled at all- I am not having one either. My mom says that since i was married before and everyone had gone to my first shower its embarrassing to have another. And I only have a MOH and no BP so I dont think its fair to have her host the whole thing herself. i am kinda sad about it also. But... I do know that I will have one at work so that cheers me up some.
I didnt have one either. my parents live in Israel, and I didnt have a BP and just no one even thought about organizing one for me. I lived thru it and so will u. I wanted to throw one myself, but honestly couldnt afford it, so I let it go.
In my culture the ettiquette is for MoB to throw it. Mine did with the help of my MoH for plans and details (also to help translate in English). One of my friends lost her mother so her brothers paid, BMs organized along with her MIL.
If your FILs offer or want to throw it then maybe you can get one that way. OR Maybe they are throwing you off and this is a surprise shower!
