Ok.. need opinions... I have requested that i dont get any dildos or any kind of really raunchy gifts... i dont want them at the shower, i have alot of people from work going, and alot of family and friends. I am ok with getting them at the bachelorette party, but everyone is really pissing me off saying that i am ruining all the fun. Its my effing shower g-damn it! why cant i make a simple request.. believe me i am NOT A PRUDE, i just feel that there is a time and a place for everything. am i wrong?

I feel the same way about the ribbon hats, etc. My mom is not into it either and she is throwing the shower..
BTW- never heard of raunchy gifts like that at a shower-- considering it does have a lot of family there.

You are not being a prude or asking anything strange! I don't want any of that stuff at mine either.
At my friends shower, a friend of ours made her a penis cake. While it was really funny....it was awkward when her relatives were looking at each other and the grandma was trying to figure out what it was, lol..
I too think there is a time and place for everything...they should be respectful of your wishes!!!!

Just make sure you open the gifts and if its something you don't want to show, just say 'this is an inappropriate gift from ____.'

I don't want any of it either.. it's tacky and classless. I don't even want to get it at a shower... I know what I like/want and I'll buy it myself !

Those things belong at the the bachelorette party - or not even at all if you dont want them.

That's a great idea.
My MIL and SIL's were mortified at some of the lingerie I received and it wasn't even 'risque'. I can't imagine if I opened something like that! You are not a prude. You have class

I'd be horrified! My MIL, myself and a dildo have no place in a room together!

I agree! And it is! I went to a shower were they hired a stripper and played really naughty games...I was really uncomfortable because I was sitting accross from my FMIL! Plus, I thought this kind of thing happened at the bachelorette party, I was shocked. I guess go with the flow and try to make the best of it. No one will think you planned it so your co-workers can't hold you in low regard.

That kind of gift is totally inappropriate at the shower. That is for the bachlorette party.

Re: Shower question..need opinion!
i can understand underwear, but I have never heard of dildos at showers..and I am not a very conservative person. when you open it, act as if you have no idea what it is and put the embarrassment back on the person who gave it to you!!

Re: Shower question..need opinion!
You are well within your right to request that such 'gifts' not be given at your shower. I would be quite angry if I were given such a gift at my shower. In my opinion, it's completely inappropriate. Numerous people have already said it, but I'll reiterate: those are the types of 'gifts' given at a bachelorette party, not at a shower. For me, it goes along the lines of a stripper at a shower; just not the time or place for it. I can only hope that my friends know me well enough to know that I'd be livid if anything like that showed up at my shower.

Re: Shower question..need opinion!
Some 'old school' (not old in AGE, but old in ideas) women do think that stuff is appropriate. DH's cousin and his other cousin's fiance brought toilet paper and air freshner and were giggling and wanted me to hold them up (which I did not do).
When I went to the fiance's bridal shower, she put some of the ribbons from the gifts on her boobs and thought it was hysterical. But, they have an 'old school' mentality and believe that the bridal shower is the equivalent to the bachelor party.
I know that MY family (my mother in particular) would have embarrassed the hell out of anyone who would have brought a dildo to my shower...but, luckily that didn't happen

Re: Shower question..need opinion!
i also requested that i didnt receive those gifts because my fils were going to be there and my dh 87 year old grandmother and thought that should be saved for the bachorette party. im far from a prude also and my friends and mom know that and because of that they really respected my wishes
