1. My MIL did a kitchen theme for my 'surprise' shower down on LI. The basket was filled with anything a new bride would need in her kitchen from pit holders, sun catchers, measuring cups and spoons, etc.

2. I love the sentimental gifts. My mother purchased my cake topper for me and gave me my something old, borrowed, blue, etc that my grandmother had given her.

3. How well do you know the bride? I love that game b/c you can get juicy details as you answer questions, etc.

ETA: I misread #2. For Favor.....anything candle or lotion is always perfect for women!

Re: shower questions

I've actually never been to themed showers

My favorite favor was body soap and wash from Bath & Body works (the mini sized)

How well does the FH know the bride and bridal bingo. My family goes nuts for bridal/baby bingo

My shower was at Minado - the Japanese/Sushit buffet so my BP made it an Asian theme. The favors were little soaps in the shape of fortune cookies with the fortune reading 'Leslie's Bridal shower') They were packaged in plastic chinese food take out boxes with chop sticks.

There were also sushi themed notepads:

The room:

I honestly cannot remember much about the showers I have been to. I think the best favors for showers or weddings are ones that are functional rather than decorative.

#1 - Never been to a theme shower...but i like the idea of a kitchen one since that is probably mostly the types of gifts the bride registered for.

#2 - most favors I've gotten end up in my trash can the minute I get home. I like the simpler ones...mine was actually just wooden spoons with a pretty ribbon tied around it and my sisters made them into lovely centerpieces...def. didn't end up in my trash can - something everyone can use and they are cheap!
Here is a pic (disregard my communion pic they had out on every table...idea was me looking like a young bride)

#3 - I HATE shower games of any kind. They take up too much time and no one usually pays attention. At mine my sisters just passed out a few questions - only 5 like what are Keri and Eric's favorite restaurant, where are they honeymooning, where did they meet, etc....whoever got the most right won a prize. Actually they treated each question differently...anyone who got #1 right went into a hat and they drew a winner...so 5 people ended up with a prize. That was cute and quick and fun.
