Shower vent!

Shower vent!

I wasn't going to vent... this is my first time throughout the whole process but I'm really upset about this. Sorry long!
So my aunt volunteered to throw my shower as soon as we announced our engagement. It was really nice of her and I gladly accepted. My family is from Russia and is not familiar with the whole shower concept. They don't understand Y they need to give two gifts for one event but I figured we'll throw it anyway, my friends will be there and family members who are more progressed and less cheap will make it.
However, my aunt procrastinated with the planning a little and scheduled it on Saturday April 25th (I originally wanted that Sunday) and notified people this Monday, which granted was a little short notice (and it was only via Evite official invitations will go out only this weekend...)
I already got word that around 10 people out of the 25 I invited are not coming due to various excuses (most of them not very convincing)...
So now we're trying to change the date but there r no available days in May and wedding is in the end of June....
So now I don’t know what to do and I'm really upset. Also I don’t know if it’s even worth changing the date or if these people just don’t want to come and made excuses…
I think vent is over

I'm sorry :( Hopefully you will be able to work out a date or just have a great time with the people that can be there for you.

OH Im sorry! I hope it works out for you... Maybe you can change the date, IMHO it is a little short notice, so maybe those excuses are valid and not purposely trying to miss the shower

Why don't you change the date and do it at one of your family members homes? Since May is usually nice you could do a BBQ outside and keep it casual.

Now I'm thinking of changing it to May 9th or 10th which is Mothers Day.
What r ur thoughts about having it mothers day?!
I mean on one hand ppl might wanna do something with their mothers but on the other hand it's in the afternoon and they have time for breakfast or dinner with their mothers. Also I have a lot of mothers and daughters at the shower. It'll be nice to spend the day with my grandma and mom cuz she usually always works that day, so it'll have a nice family feel to it...

I would not attend a shower on mothers day. I usually spend the afternoon with my family and then we have dinner together. People may think it is inconsiderate. Not to mention that traffic is usually a nightmare on mothers day...

Agree. Sorry, but unless it were my sister's shopwer and my Mom were hosting, I would not attend a shower on Mother's Day...and I would probably have smacked my sister upside her head for choosing that day.

Sorry but I would have to agree.. it would have to be someone really close to me like a sister or direct first cuz

Yes that was my original thought as well that it might be inconsiderate to other ppl... Even though a lot of the ppl I’m inviting don’t really celebrate Mothers Day that religiously...

i would keep the date you had - you shouldn't change dates of parties for people - this is my philosophy with all events - one of Fhs family members always changes the date when pepple can't make her events - i find the floating party very annoying (beceause when I say yes and things change i find it disrespectful) and i think people just need to accept when some can't make it and no try to move tthings all the time

that said, if your family isn't into the shower - appreciate the friends or limited family who are. weddings get the best of people. just enjoy those who are there for you - don't stress over the others

I agree I find myself changing dates to please ppl and then I get screwed even more. The only reason I would change it is because it's a bit of a short notice and some close friends can't make it either.
As for family my cousin just informed me that my approach for the shower is off because the shower is thrown at a certain venue and not home when people see that they think I need to bring money and a gift it's a bit too much especially at this stage. So basically I got my answer regarding family don't think I'll be adjusting to them anymore...

I would keep the date you had too. . honestly I am in the little of same boar. . I think my shower will be small b/c of committments/money etc. . so am just looking it as a nice gathering with fewer people but def people who want to be there. . first I was dissapointed but in a way it will be more intimate so I'm excited about that. . .
