What are people having their guests shower them with at the end of the ceremony - rice, petals, bubbles? Any ideas? If you are having your ceremony in a church, are there often restrictions?

We will probably do bubbles. I know that bird seed, rice, and flower petals are prohibited at my church.

Yeah, there are alot of restrictions now. I would say your safest bet is bubbles. I honestly can say this is the one thing i have not thought about yet. I would say b/c of my photographer and the pictures i have seen him do with the rose petals i will go with the petals (if the place i choose allows that then i will go with rose petals). :)

my church allows bubbles and birdseed. If I want petals I have to pay a clean up fee. Every church is different though. Some only allow silk petals, while others have no problem with anything.

I like the bubbles, but one of my friends told me how the bubbles won't be good if they land on the satin dresses! I never even thought of that.

Just a question though.. Because I have been trying to come up with what i want to do myself. My question is dont the bubbles stain your dress? I know just from babysitting days that the soapy solution can leave water marks on fabrics. especially if someone is standing close to you and the wands drip... Just wondering.... Maybe someone who has done it already can give some imput.

i was warned by my bridal store about bubbles and my dress so no bubbles for me! i hvnt even ASKED my church about rose petals!

I really want rose petals and I'm really annoyed that the church doesn't let rose petals be tossed inside the church by the FG. I always imagined the FG doing that.... I'll be even more annoyed if they don't allow rose petals outside either. According to the booklet given to us by the church:
Nothing is to be thrown inside the church. As the B&G leave the steps of the church, guests may throw rice or birdseed. Bubbles & Bells are also permitted outdoors. Balloon releases are not permitted, as they constitute a danger to the marine life surrounding our island.

we had rose petals.....but there was rain & hurricane winds on our wedding day so we never got to do it! lol. instead the groomsmen dumped it all on top of me inside the church after the guests had all gone lol.

ps: usually the rose petals have to be real(which they probably will be anyway)....but usually that's the deal - that way the landscapers can just mow over them.

we can do anything that hits the ground so no petals, bubbles, rice, or birdseed. instead we are doing ribbon wands

We could only do bubbles. I had no problems with them staining my dress and they looked pretty cool in the pictures. I also like the idea of the ribbon wands which look awesome in pictures. I have also heard of passing out little bells and having the people ring them as you come out of the church. They also sell the biodegradable or bird friendly confetti at Michael's in the wedding aisle.
