I've only heard of 2 showers if the children are VERY far apart in age. Or if the person moved & a new set of friends throw one.

Re: Showers...do you get a second one?
It's not the norm, but I think it's becoming alot more common. My cousin had a shower for her 2nd and it was about 2 yrs after the first.

I dont get this. Ive been hearing about a few lately too. If you JUST had a baby within the past 2 or 3 years - what else could you possibly need? That's what it's all about, isnt it? Sometimes people claim its done for the 'celebration' of a baby but I dont buy that. .My kids are 21 mths apart and other than a double stroller and convertible car seat, there is nothing we needed. I think it's incredibly gratuitous. JMO

I definitely don't think that it is the norm. I know we had one for my best friend because money is VERY VERY tight for them. The first time she had a girl born in the winter and the second was a boy born in the spring. We basically did a clothing shower. But there was only her 6-7 closest friends invited and that was it! It wasn't at someone's house or anything like that. I agree with Elizabeth.

I agree with Elizabeth too. I don't think showers for second children are appropriate if they are somewhat close in age.
Heck, I don't like baby showers to begin with just because you never know what might happen.

i didnt have a shower with jeremy... the thought didnt even cross my mind. I dont think, if the kids are close in age, that a second shower is appropriate. What could possibly be on the registry?

Agreed. Nothing says 'gift grab' more than a 2nd shower within 2-3 years. Especially if it's the same sex.

I know by my sister in SC, it is becoming very popular. They are calling them Diaper or Dinner showers, so you bring diapers or dinner (something you can freeze or gift certificate)
since they are popular by her and I love any reason to throw a party, we are having one for her second child, I also dont feel bad, bc she didnt have a shower there for her first, so its a whole set of different people then her first. and if you dont want to bring a gift dont, its not like a first when people register, I just think its nice to celebrate the baby, and usually the guest list should be small for a 2nd shower or really close friends and family. I like the idea!!!

This sounds like a good idea for my brother and his FW. She has a 2 year old from a previous relationship but we didn't know her back then and want to throw her a little something being this will be my first niece/nephew and my parents first grandchild.

Re: Showers...do you get a second one?
My family threw me a HUGE shower for my 1st born, there were about 60-70 people there! For my 2nd born, my Mom had a much smaller intimate setting (about 15 select ladies) and it was more of a party for me! I got cremes and PJ's, etc. For this 3rd child we want to have a huge party just celebrating our new family member but I am making a point that everyone knows NO GIFTS, it;s just a party, not a shower! My Mom said that she felt bad not acknowledging my 2nd baby pre-birth so that is why she threw a little 'ladies brunch'.
