Before I was married, my sister and I had the most wonderful relationship in the world. We were so close and together all of the time. She is a bit upset because we are not as close as we used to be. she is not married, but definitely has her own life. I've been married for a little over a year and will be having my first baby very soon. I explained to her that things do change and at this time in my life my dh and baby are my main focus. I feel so bad. How many of you were very close to their siblings and this closeness somewhat changed after your or their marriage?

Re: Siblings
Includer her bigtime in your baby experience. She will be a new aunt soon. That should make her feel better.

Re: Siblings
when my sister and i was growing up we fought alot! as we got older we got very close even when she was married and i wasn't we were close and its still the same even now that i am married we can talk about a lot of things.its always good to have your sister in your life and have that closeness because someday like my sister and i say our mom and dad wont alway's be there for us and its good that we have this relationship.you need that cloness with your sister maybe you both should talkand try toget that cloness again. goodluck i hope i helped ya. im me if you want.maybe you can make her the godmother of your baby.
ETa: the reason why we are so close is because we saw how our nanny and her sister did not get along they couldn't be in the same room they hated eachother and we swore to eachother that we will never be like that.

Re: Siblings
my sister and i were sort of close growing up and were much closer once we were both out of college. but once she had her first baby our relationship totally changed. she's in a completely different place now. it seems we have nothing in common anymore and like most mothers she mainly talks about the kids or something having to do with them. we used to have a lot of fun just spontaneously going on shopping trips or watching tv, but now that's impossible with the kids. my nephew, her first, is my godson and yes that was a nice gesture and yes it's great being in aunt, but imo neither of those things makes up for losing closeness.
i guess just try and do things together just the two of you. you'll both have to make an effort, but it will be worth it in the end.

I feel that family is important regardless, and my fw feels the same way. Is she going to be the baby's godmother? That might help tighten the relationship again.

Re: Siblings
my younger sister who is my best friend is pregnant. i am thrilled for her (she's always wanted to be a mom), but i am also sad about this life changing event. i would never tell her because i know this is the happiest time in her life (thus far). i just miss our happy hour outings, spontaneous shopping trips, daily hour phone conversations, going for long drives and doing whatever else we feel like at that exact moment. i will be the godmother, but to me that doesn't make a difference. while our relationship remains intact, the time we spend together has changed (due to her changing interests) and i miss it dearly. i guess life goes on and everyone adapts, but it's still difficult.

Re: Siblings
my sister was married before me (i am older) I got married a year later and am now going through an annulment. My sister is having a baby. I have never been closer to my sister. She has beenthere for me through my painful experience and i am there for her with her pregnancy bouts. She has her life with her husband and her expecting baby but she always makes time.....
ETA: we used to always go out dancing, shopping, happy hours. now our activities have changed. We go to the movies, lunch, manicures and pedicures. not as often but we make sure that we plan the time. And we have 4 other siblings. We have a Sister Day which we set aside once a month or every few weeks and do different things. We have gotten closer even though our lives are so different now!!

Re: Siblings
I felt our relationship has improved in the last few years. I feel very fortunate that my sister and my DH get along so well. He considers her his true sister (he has no siblings). My sister and I are certainly a lot closer too.

Re: Siblings
My sister and I will always be close no matter what, her husband and mine have to accept that and I love her kids as if they are my own!
