sicily

for those of you who went to sicily i have a few questions!
Where did you stay?
What did you do?
Are there direct flights to sicily or do you have to stop in rome/venice? and if there are direct flights, which airline flies direct?
did you rent a car or is it easy to travel by cab/train?
any sicily tips would be appreciated!!!

Re: sicily

well i have been to sicily but always stayed with family. I know EUROFLY goes from NY to Sicily direct BUT it is only during certain times. . . otherwise you have to do a stop over in Rome or Milan ( from Rome, it is like an hour flight).

Catania and Palermo are the main cities - I am sure you can find tons of hotels there. . . may I suggest visiting Toarmina and Mount Etna ( an active volcano)

FM me if you have any specific questions - it depends on what kind of HM you want - i may have more ideas for you if you want a HM that is really off the beaten path . . . my family lives there so i can email them for you!

as for driving - a car would be helpful BUT they drive like ANIMALS everywhere in italy. . . .i actually would carry my rosary beads before getting in the car with my cousins!

Hope this helps!
