Sigh, I was 4th of July picnic deprived!!!!!!!!

My salmon loaf was good yesterday and today, but I miss potato salad, and burgers and hot dogs, and I really MISS ICED TEA!!! Can't have tea; It's on my irritant list!!!!!!Who had picnics on the 4th and what did you have to eat? Mary MOB

We went to our best man's house for a BBQ...not quite a picnic, but same idea...

There was A LOT of food: 2 types of sausages, souvlaki, hotdogs, hamburgers, meatballs, spanakopites (spinach & cheese in phyloo dough), pastichio (noodles and groundbeef topped with bechamel sauce), sausage & peppers, tzatziki, spinach dip, potato salad, pasta salad, bruschetta, 4 typs of cakes and fruit salad.

Plus, our best man makes his own wine, and he had set out 3 different types for us...they were all good but his semi-sweet rose wine was AMAZING!!!

Mary, if we ever have a place with a backyard that can accomodate a gathering of more than 5 people, I'll invite you!

Souvlaki is shishkebab (pieces of meat on a skewer)

Bechamel sauce is one of the 'mother sauces' as they say in the culinary world...flour and melted butter form a thicker rue, then you add hot milk and you get a bechamel sauce

Tzatziki is yogurt with shredded cucumber and garlic
