I have to pick the material for my dress on April 1st and I do not know which material to choose!!
Can someone explain the difference between SILK SATIN and SILK DUTCHESS SATIN and which one is better looking? Maybe some pics of the two side by side??
I know it is probably personal preference, but I would like to know what you ladies think!
TIA!!

Re: Silk satin or duchesse satin?
Hmm, good question! I never thought about them being different.
My dress is silk satin and it has a beautiful lustre to it. The material just looks so rich in comparison to non-silk satin (i.e. blends etc). I love the way it feels and moves and that it has a solid presence - meaning that it is thick enough that it looks substantial and not flimsy at all.
Maybe someone else knows a little about Dutchess silk satin and can give you info on that.
I personally LOVE the material of my gown. Sometimes I wonder if I should have just saved my mom's $$$$ (she gifted me my dress) and went with the David's bridal lace dress I liked, but then I remember the material and design of my dress and I know I made the right decision.

Re: Silk satin or duchesse satin?
Not sure if anyone's posted this article before but I found it really helpful. (hopefully it's a reliable source..from the same company that writes the book Bridal Bargains I think). If you download the pdf for 'Learning the Lingo'- Step 2 it goes through the different fabric types.
Here's an excerpt:
'Satin is just a fabric that is tightly woven with a high polish on one side. Like many luxury fabrics, satin used to be made exclusively of silk. Today, the vast majority of “satin” bridal gowns are made of 100% polyester, not silk. Yes, there are a few silk satin gowns out there, but they’re rare (and very expensive, typically over $2000). One hybrid fabric: “silk-faced satin.” This is a blend of silk and polyester (or rayon) that is woven into a satin finish. This fabric is also called Duchess(e) satin.
Duchess (Duchesse) satin: Also referred to as silk-faced satin, this weave weighs less than traditional silk finishes and is usually less expensive as well. Most Duchess satins are a blend of silk and polyester woven into a satin finish.'
