silk vs. real flowers?????

I went to my 1st and only florist so far this weekend (Spitz & Peck) and really did not expect the flowers to be that much ($2400). I really do not want to spend that much, so I was thinking if silk flowers are any less expensive. Does anyone know about that? Has anyone looked into silk arrangements??

silk vs. real flowers?????

Maybe its just me but I have always been able to spot silk flowers from a mile away. If you plan on using them for the centerpieces, there will be a difference that your guests can touch and see. I also think that good quality silk flowers cost just as much as real ones (they just last forever as opposed to dying) Have you thought about using candles or a cheaper variety of flowers instead?

Try a different florist...

I too couldn't see spending a lot on flowers that would just die, but the silks are just as expensive and as Sonicstef said they are noticeable. What we are using are candelabras (from Macy's on sale for 2 for $4.02, clearance from the old Sterns) with ivy and a small amount of flowers. It will save us over $1500.00 for centerpieces. Keep your eye out for sales. Also try Flowers by Burton & Sons they are the cheapest I found and I know several people that used them. Good Luck

I used silk & loved it

So now I have my bouq, 2 BMS bouqs, and the flower girl bouq for my own. I was lucky enuf that a freind of Robs Aunt had an at home biz with all dried flowers and silks. I was the first wedding she did...but she had such beautiful things at home, I was not worried! Also, it was great to have the flowers 2 weeks prior ...so no worry as to when the flowers would arrive on my special day...and in what condition. I highly recommend it. ALl my flowers were silk, including the boutinieers...and my bouq was silk and dried. The centerpieces I put together myself: Hurricans with a white taper candle and a off white and rosy flowers circling it. Also, I picked a few more vivid flowers for my bouq and was worried how they would appear. Well, in person, they caused a nice 'pop' against the antique white dress...and it looked GREAT! in the pictures- both the photog ones and the casual ones the guests took. Check out a few places before you make any decisions

silk v real

my cousin used silk flowers to decorate the church - that could help cut costs. You can also find lower cost florists. Mine will be about 1700. A friend of mine had VERY simple but elegant centerpieces and I think everything for her was about 1000. Definitely shop around. Also ask florists if you can get a discount if you pay in cash...I don't know how the contract will work, but if they don't have to report the sales, you might be able to get a better deal.

silk vs. real flowers?????

do you by any chance have any pictures I can see? I don''t know what to do...I don''t want it to look cheap, but I don''t want to spend all that money. And silk, I figured would make a nicer centerpiece, only because they won''t die and people can always have them. I was actually thinking real flowers for the bridal party (and thus they are in the pictures that count) then silk flowers everywhere else. But yes, I will have to check around and see some arrangements. Thanks for everyone''s input!! :)
