silly e-party questions

This is so silly but I haven't been to too many e-parties. We're having a brunch at a place. Sounds so stupid but what needs to be done? Does fh or parents needs to give a speech? Is there supposed to be a cake? Do we announce our bridal party? Or can we relax and just and have brunch?????

I'm with you.....what the heck happens at these? I, too, have no idea and would like to know before mine in november. I did read somewhere that you don't open your gifts there b/c engagement parties are supposed to be the official announcement of your engagement, and for that guests historically haven't been notified in advance and would not have a gift with them. Due to that, a gift is not necessarily a requirement for the event and therefore you don't open gifts as not to make anyone feel bad. I remember, i read it in Bride's.

Well, mine is in October so I can let you know what happens at mine . . . if I don't get a clue before!!! I heard about not opening the gifts too but is it bad that I put register cards with the invitations? Actually, don't answer that question because I already sent them out!

At ours we had a little champagne toast and introduced our BP to the fam and each other - since hardly any of my friends knew his, then had dinner and cake and afterwards... We also had a few words of thanks to those who came (since we paid - that'll probably differ if your parents or his are paying)... it's all a matter of how formal or informal you want it to be... If my parents are paying should they thank everyone for coming?

I would think so - but only if they want to... but they probably would on their own... you can mention it to them if you want... just ask them something like - do you want FH and I to thank everyone for coming while we're thanking you?? if you want to, that's fine... no big deal - just want to see what you want to do?
