silly gifts

silly gifts

so i started registry stalking again because we started to get some wedding gifts from the OOT guests

my best friend/college roommate who is coming with her mom as her date sent the most awkward gift. i didnt put her in the BP b/c she lives in CA, so i know it's a trip (air and then hotel, car rental, etc.) but the gift she sent was really awkward. A pasta set ($40), a set of 4 mugs (which i registered for but already received so now i have two sets even though i only wanted one) and a tea carousel (she knows i drink a lot of tea). i know she probably thought it was cutesy because im actually tea obsessed, but the whole gift was $60 from the two of them. im really happy she's coming since i only get to see her like once every couple of years but i was just shocked. gift is a gift though, right?

guess ill just have to keep this in mind when she gets married next year. if i go without FH to her wedding does that mean i give a $30 gift?

please don't quote. thanks ladies!

on the plus side, someone bought the stand mixer too - im anxious to know who it is from!

ouch...$60 for 2 people is rough, but your right a gift is a gift!

i had alot of OOT'ers at my wedding...and i know LI weddings are unlike weddings anywhere else, but I was HUGELY surprised at the gifts alot of OOT'ers gave. $50 for a few couples....one couple thats close to us just gave me a recipe book ....it must be a OOT thing

but on the other hand, after my wedding...a few OOT'ers had such a fantastic time that they sent extra registry gifts post-wedding, in addition to the gift they gave on the day. you never know!

This might be her little extra to you. I am sure they will still gift you at the wedding. You never know.

Re: silly gifts

I'm guessing that OOTers spend a lot of money to go to the wedding in the first place so they might not have that much spendable cash for gifts. I don't know. I'm not holding my breath for our OOTers to give us great gifts or gifts at all in some cases, but will be happy if they can make it and make our wedding fun.

yeah, this is also how i feel, i just was a little surprised, that's all

suzie, maybe you're right, maybe it is just the 'extra' something. i'm not upset, just surprised and i feel really bad that now when i go to her wedding next year i only get to give her a $30 gift (ill prob be going alone because FH doesnt fly)

this is always a touchy subject because, as you pointed out... a gift is a gift...

i mean she couuld be going through some tough money times right now. It happens to all of us. and then hopefully by the time your wedding rolls around she will have a little more spending money to give you cash as a present.

Edit: just because she gave you a $30 gift doesnt mean you have to do the same... what if she gave you a $500 gift?? its how much you want to give and how much you can afford. two wrongs dont always make it right, and if your upset about her gift how will she feel about yours if you give the same amount

oh man thats terrible! i hate to say it...it probably is all you are getting.
we got some ridiculous gifts in the mail (an apron and wooden spoon) and hoped it was just a little extra....sadly we were disappointed...

i make a habit of giving back what i get. so if it was $500, then i would give that right back. i know it's a touchy subject which is why i'm not upset about it at all. was just shocked and needed a little venting room that's all

thanks ladies!
