Silly Q...but help

I haven't been to a gym for years & joined one 2 weeks ago. I've been on the weight loss kick since Jan., already losing 28 lbs, want to lose 20 more.

My question is this....right now should I primarily be focusing on cardio & losing the fat/flab first, BEFORE ANY toning/machines, etc?

Thanks so much

I've been doing 45-50 min of cardio (treadmill/bike)

Various machines

I KNOW, I KNOW, should use free weights

Congratulations on losing the weight!! That's great! This is what I suggest...

You should start weight training imediately. 3-4 days of weights. Do either 3 full body workouts wih a day of rest, or a day of cardio between each day or do upper, lower, upper, lower.

Do 3-4 sessions of cardio-2 HIIT (high intensity intervals), and 1or 2 steady state. The cardio change will keep your body from adapting to a regular cardio schedule, which will help you continue to lose fat.

Hope this helps. keep up the good work!

ps. please use free weights!
if you are not comfortable with this, get a trainer to show you what to do. if you start on the machines, switch over to free weights once you gain confidence.

Christine,

Thanks so much. I'm new to all this!

I was doing the same cardio routine daily

Another quick Q: FH said to be careful doing lunges b/c you could easily hurt your knees if doing them incorrectly

just don't let your front knee go past your front toes.
