I booked about two weeks in advance. One place I tried to make an appointment with was booked already so I would think between 2-3 weeks would be sufficient

I booked about 2 weeks in advanced also, but I went during the week so there was a lot of availability. The weekends were pretty booked with the salon.

It can't hurt to call early if you have a specific date in mind...the 2 places I have gone I called the day before and went the following day

I'd say 3-4 weeks.. Summer is a busy time for wedding dress shopping for the same reason you're doing it then.. it's during wedding season (so 1 year out from a lot of bride's weddings) and all teacher brides are off. You can't book too far in advance. Worse comes to worse they tell you they're not booking that far out and you call back a week later.

I booked no more than a week in advance, and one I did at random an hour before I wanted to go. Really depends on where you are looking.
