Silly Question... but something that's been on my mind
What did everyone get on their first Mother's Day? Why do I ask... I can't complain b/c I know it came with love and that's what matters - My husband gave me a really cute Vera Bradly summer collection bag (with matching wallet and make-up bag) now given in the past... prior to be a mommy - (God how life changes) this was a great gift for me b/c it never matters how many bags I have - I could always use a new one... Well, I'm a little sad b/c I wanted something a little more special (I guess some piece of jewerly (b/c this way I would always be able to say I got this on my 1st MD - however, I never let up that I was a little sad - I knew we didn't really have the money for jewerly this year - but I've never even used the bag - I find I'm always using my bigger bags - It's funny b/c I used to love small bags - the smaller the bettter - and now it's the opposite - I feel bad returning it - but should I - it seems so silly to save it when at this point a few months later and I still haven't used it once?

My husband got me a diamond necklace but the best gift of all was bringing my baby boy home from the hospital on Mother's Day!

I agree about not getting 'attached' to a bag or not wanting to make that your sentimental gifts. maybe you can exchange it for a special piece of jewelry. I think the 'thought' was there from your hubby and thats sweet enough. maybe he can go with you to get the jewelry so he'll still be GETTING IT for you and THAT can be your first mothers day gift.
I used to be like that, now im not as much. actually my hubby is more mushy than me sometimes. For my first xmas as a mommyy (last xmas) he got me a MOM charm (from the baby-and he put it on the babys tummy for me to take as he slept lol) on a chain, AND a cameo pendant on a chain engraved w my sons name and bday)(from hubby) I LOVEDDD the cameo, but the mom one im like 'uhmmmm ya got the receipt ???' some things i cant see keeping. its cute, but i hate having so many little things. one is enough. i still havent returned it
For this mothers day (my first mothers day) hubby and BIL got my sister and me a full spa day, which we LOVEDDDDDDDD. so sometimes even non-items like that are SOOO awesome. i thinkthe bag you got was very thoughtful and sweet, he put thought into it and you should give him that credit go ahead and get something different !! and yes it still counts as mothers day. SO WHAT if they need hints sometimes ! hey my hubby LOVESSS to pick out his own gifts, no mistakes, but he spends a ton more than I would have.
sorry to ramble. my famous tangents....

I understand how you feel -not from a mothers perspective, however for our first anniversary I wanted something special that I could look back on and say was my 1st anniversary gift (I got a diamond bracelet which I LOVE and will wear for the next 50+ years! - Al knew how I felt about wanting something special, particularly a bracelet)
If you're not going to use the bag, you may as well return it and get something else. How will your husband feel about it? Have you explained your feelings?
Like Anna said, I've learned they definitely need HINTS! May kill the surprise but in the long run, you get what you want - so everyone's happy!

I can understand how you feel to a point. But, I am not one to give 'hints'...that is just me. I know most women do it, and that's fine. I just do not like to ask for a specific gift from my hubby b/c I know it hurts his feelings. I accept what he picks for me and know that it comes from his heart.
For my first Mother's Day, the greatest gift I received was bringing my son home from the hospital (just like Misha). My second greatest gift was having my Mom fly all the way from NY to CA to be there right when we got home. I did, however, receive two jewelry gifts that day: a pair of emerald stud earrings (from DH) and a little boy charm necklace engraved w/Paul's name and birthdate (from my Mom).

I don't think I would return the bag, even though my husband tells me all the time that if I don't like or will not use a gift to return it. If you return it and buy yourself something it isn't really the same anyway. JMO

Re: Silly Question... but something that's been on my mind
I agree that it's not the same as getting something 'from the heart'. I have a friend who always shows me gifts her hubby got her, but neglects to tell me (her kids spill it, LOL) that she WENT with hubby to buy them. Once in a while, if I have to I will, but I also see that as losing its touch if you go and get it yourself every single time....
Im not one for material gifts anyway. I prefer jsut eating dinner together and going for a walk. going out for coffee/ice cream. Sometimes he just likes to ask my opinion on something, so i've given it to him. Most of the time he does great without even asking. I still feel that keeping a bag you dont want is useless. Maybe because Ive grown up with brothers and even hubby, who, although they feel bad saying theyre not crazy about a shirt, lets say, they will say it as nicely as they can and Id rather they have something they LIKE than just keep something 'to make me happy'. I guess it depends on how you feel about this. Theres no right and wrong.
What did you decide ?

Re: Silly Question... but something that's been on my mind
I too know that it's not the gift that truly matters - in fact, my Mothers's Day card and what he wrote me is sentimental enough anyway. I think I am going to return the bag and just buy a bigger vera bradly bag - no I won't have it forever and I won't have a piece of jewerly that says my first Mothers Day - but that is silly that I even gave a 2nd thought. We're in the process of buying a new home and it would be crazy to go out a buy a pice of jewerly - Thanks for your help!
