Re: Silly question...bride is on what side???
I put my side of the family on the left side (as your coming in the room) since I sat on DH's right side at the dais.
Also coming down the aisle I was on the right side of DH.
Not sure if it makes a difference though.

Re: Silly question...bride is on what side???
ok i have a RIDICULOUSLY silly response to this. the answers out there in the official books and etiquette places are 50/50 on this. but i love this one that heard once...very romantic....and I'm totally paraphrasing The tradition of the bride being on the grooms left comes from back in the day when a groom would have to literally defend his bride. i don't know, while traveling through the forest if thieves were to attack or whatever. being that a majority of people are right handed - grooms would put there brides to the left of them so that their right hand was free to get to their weapon...sword or whatever. it carried over into the ceremony with the thought of - if anyone tried to steel the bride, the groom was able to attack and defend.
lol i know silly silly silly - but sort of romantic - so thats always the way i think. even when it comes to what side of the bed I sleep on...but FH insists on sleeping on the side of the door ...pretty cute as its for the same reasons - so he could defend me if someone came in awwww

HHAHAA that is the cutest response....LoL!!!! Our BM said the rule of thumb is the bride should be touching the grooms right hand which would not leave his hand free to protect me...LoL!!!!!

Re: Silly question...bride is on what side???
do you mean for the ceramony or rh?
Ceremony traditionally in a church the bride is on the left (if facing the alter) and groom on the right.
In a Jewish ceremony (at least the ones I have been to) it is the opposite.
As for the RH we are going by which family fits better on which side.

for the reception.....our reception hall told us the bride should be to the right of the groom...is that right?

i dont think it really matters, we are going to scatter everyone because both our parents are divorced so we will need to keep the peace somehow

I don't personally think there is a right or wrong. It is probably a rule of thumb they go by but I don't think it is something that is written in stone. I have seen it both ways. I would assume the bride would sit on the side that her family is on but I could be wrong -- I never really put that much thought into the RH part -- just the ceremony.

Re: Silly question...bride is on what side???
At the RH, whichever side she feels more comfortable on. In church the bride is to her groom's left. In Jewish ceremonies the bride is to the groom's right.
I sat to my husband's left, something we always do because I eat with my left hand and he with his right. If I sit on his right, then we bump elbows. I walk on his left side, and I sleep to his left also. Just more comfortable that way. My family and friends sat on 'my' side, his family on 'his' side.

Re: Silly question...bride is on what side???
most of the weddings I have been to the bride and her family is on the left side when walking in the church and the groom and his family on the right. Its so great to have this site and be able to ask questions like this....
