Alright then, lets say that we decide to get babysitters for the reception for those adults who want to have their kids there. How the heck do I word that letter and response?

I would like to say something like We would like to have an adults only reception and would like to provide babysitters for a kids-only reception but need to know how many kids to expect. Then have an attached card for them to send back to me so I know how many babysitters to get.

Also, does anyone know where I could find good, qualified babysitters? (I live in VA and don't really have the resources down here)
You guys are wonderful! Thank you!

Edited to say: But does the above sound like we really want kids to come? Like, I would rather, be like for those who can't find babysitters. Ughhhhhh

Could you look in to hiring a babysitter or two to stay at your MIL's and watch the children of those parents who could not find a babysitter.

That is what we are going to do for the children in my family. We have a ton of OOT guests comming to long island for the week and obviously will be bringing their children with them. The day of the wedding we will be hiring a babysitter to stay at my mothers house and watch the children while we are at the ceremony and reception. That way the parents dont have to worry about finding a sitter b/c one will be provided for them.

Thats a great idea but the Harrison House is 45 minutes from my parents house and 2 hours from his. So it would need to be at Harrison.

Don't put it in a letter or in the invites, just make all the arrangements for the sitter and relay the information as needed, for example when an invitee calls and says she would love to come but doesn't know what to do with the kids. I think that if you include the sitter info with your invites, you'll have more kids than you want (and then may need to arrange for two sitters).

Hmmmm.... is there a hotel somewhere close by? Maybe you could get a suite for the night and let them hang out there. Especially if the place had a pool. It would probably be cheaper than paying to have them all at the reception.

Try a nanny agency. Maybe they do things by the day. I dont know for sure though. Just a suggestion.

I agree, I would wait until people RSVP saying that they are going to bring their kids and then tell them that you are hiring a sitter for them, or else you may end up with all of your guests bringing their children.

Just be aware that some parents are not going to want to leave their kids with someone THEY don't know. I've seen this happen at two weddings. Are there any teens in the family that might be willing to do this?

I agree, just give people the info as needed- not in the invite. Some people probably won't want to leave the kids with your sitter, but you are already going out of your way to be considerate by doing that!! At that point it is their problem...

i was a babysitter at a wedding once. It was my teacher's daughter that was getting married, and he had three of us babysit. We had a hotel room nearby the reception.

I don't understand why you would get a babysitter for your wedding. Honestly if a child needs to be 'babysat' by someone other than their parents, they should stay home.

You are having a wedding reception, not running a daycare. JMHO You should not have to worry about stuff like this.

Good luck

you also have to keep in mind that some children won't just stay with anyone either..i'm warming all the kids up to the girls i have watching them prior to the wedding so that they know them and there aren't any issues about hanging out with them..i have 13 kids coming so i'm preparing everyone.

I'm a gymnastics coach and I'm planning on asking one of the other coaches (like one of the college kids that could use a few bucks and I know work well with the kids they coach) to come to the wedding as a babysitter/chaparone - I'll throw them $100 and a meal. It shouldn't be more than like 3 kids, but my future SS will run out of the hall after using the bathroom if he's not attended and I don't want FH chasing after him at our wedding.

Try asking teachers you may know or friend's who have kids - ask them if they'd recommend a coach or teacher or even their babysitter - that may be willing to make a few bucks (target the young ones).
