Ok.

I love my cop friends. I honor and respect what cops and firefighters do. I actually give them just about as much respect and honor I do the Military, which I hold in VERY high regard.

HOWEVER!
I don’t feel that they somehow inherently ‘suffer’ more than us. I agree and allow that families of fine people like cops and firemen/women give up a LOT. The sacrifice is great! I don’t think that makes them, their family, due special treatment when it comes to the law.

That said, I know plenty of times I’ve gotten out of a ticket. I’m no cop relation. Just common begging will work. So some ‘perk’ allows cop relations to get that option without the hassle. Fine, I really don’t have a problem with a here and there.

I disagree with open favoritism. Putting cops families in a class of their own is unfair. Being that they have a more dangerous job is true, but there’s a lot of desk cops too. Have you seen the life of some of our military folk? Being that they have horrible schedules is true, but have you the schedule of a single mom working two jobs? I saw my father 3 months out of a year as a child. Just three months, period.

I’m a military child. There’s no perks. My father was wounded, my uncle was wounded and every male has served. I get no perks. Heck even Jim is ex military.

I guess I’m saying cops/firefighters don’t have exclusive rights to say that their families suffer more than any other type of families with fathers or mothers who work less obviously dangerous jobs.

I think in America it should just be simple.

You knowingly break the law, ANY law, you deserve to pay the price. No one man(woman) shall be above another. We should all be equal in liberty and justice. Justice is supposed to be blind not lifting her blind to check out a badge.

My family has paid their price honorably by serving this nation, repeatedly. I tell you, it gives me no right to get out of a ticket or avoid a draft lets say.

Another sore point with cops (not even their relatives) is when THEY break the law while in uniform and it’s ‘ok’. The worst traffic violations I see are made by cops. And no, I don’t accept that they have increased training in driving as an excuse. We all know its not YOUR driving you should worry about it’s the OTHERS. Cops weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds can’t possible predict all possible outcomes. Cops RUNNING red lights and stop signs without lights or turning lights on just to get through them, forcing drivers to move aside can’t know what could happen.

I grew up trusting anyone in a uniform with shiny medals (cops, firefighters and military). Nowadays, I am sadly disappointed by the behavior of the few that reflects poorly on the whole.

I think in any career there is some degree of 'professinal courtesy: extended to others in the same profession and thier families, so I have no big problem with someone getting off a minor ticket here and there. My uncle is a police officer and he gave us PBA cards but he for one never liked special treatment. When he went to burger king or something people would always say 'no charge for the police officer' and he'd turn around and give the food to someone behind him. He didn't want special treatment.

i think there are a lot of profesions that really go unrecognized where people make just as many sacrifies. I think teachers are grossly underpaid, and underappreciated and there are many more professions like it, so I really understand where you're coming from.

SO TRUE
There's a group who deserve a break. Those who are in charge of shaping the minds of our future.

Single Mom's too and Mom's overwhelmed in general. Jim and I will give up our spots in line for a mom with her hands full (kids kids kids) in any situtation.

But most professional courtsies, ethical or not, usually (hopefully) don't break the law.

You made very good points and I give you credit for making them. I agree with a lot of what you said and I'm sorry that your family suffered so much .
