Since when did churches get so expensive!!!

On top of the astronomical fee of $400 for the church ceremony, I just found out I have to pay and extra $220 for the music. This is just ridiculous!! Sorry....had to vent!!

That's a lot for music! How many singers/organists are you having?

Eeek! I think my church is $350 but the organist comes with it.

i think in comparison to how much everything else it, the church is pretty reasonable!!!

We were asked to pay a $400 fee but that included the music.

I was told that in Manhattan a church asked couples for 10% of their total budget. So if $20,000 wedding, they got $2000.00

That's just so wrong. A few hundred I can understand, but not a percentage.

Thats ridiculous!!! We are paying $450 and the organist and soloist are included.

The fee for my church is $700, and I'm not sure yet if that includes music, but I think not.

$220 for ONE singer and ONE musician. I just think thats ridiculous. She'd better sing like Whitney Houston. And on top of that, I have to tip all these people!!! Im going to start a fundraiser: Dollars for Diva

Mine is $400 for the church & then $220 for music...Even if you don't use their organist, you still have to pay the fee!

FH was apalled...& they say the church is a non-profit organization! SURE!!!

My organist is $100- i think that is standard, so I guess $200 makes sense if you are having a soloist too.

If $400 is astronomical for a church, how much is reasonable? We are supposed to make up our own amount, & I have no idea how much we should give.

Re: Since when did churches get so expensive!!!

I figured between $200-$300 is reasonable.

EPT - I have no choice with the organist and singer. I have to get both with the option of adding on more musicians (ya right).

My church's 'donation' is $550, it will probably go up by the time we have our wedding.

Re: Since when did churches get so expensive!!!

We paid $400 for just the minister, not even the church. So these sound like deals to me.

My friend is paying $2000 for her church in manhattan that is covered in scaffolding at the moment.

Do those prices just cover the use of the church? Or does it include the officiant as well?

Re: Since when did churches get so expensive!!!

Mine includes the officiant.

Our total for the church is $650 and then I was told by a friend that the day of her brothers wedding at the same church they charged them $120 clean up fee. I think this is crazy.

My church wanted $500 for the church and $200 for music even if I brought in my own music.
they were so focused on money. it really annoyed me.
