Since when is a SS card not a valid form of ID??

We went to get our marriage license this morning at Hempstead town hall. We knew we had to bring 2 forms of ID, so I presented my license and SS card. The woman said the SS card wasn't sufficient! So I whip out my Hofstra Alumni card (with picture) and she says that's not good because it's not current student ID, so then I whip out my librbary card (with picture) and that's not good enough!! So I'm ready to hand her my wallet and tell her to go through and pull out what she deems 'good enough' whne she asks if I have health insurance. So I say yes and then she asks for that card, which by the way only has my first initial and the WRONG last name on it!! But that was sufficient!! Alrighty then......but I got so nervous. And you think these people could crack a smile?? NO!!!

FH by the way had his license and Nassau County P.D. ID card and had NO problem.

Please let me know where the Hempstead Town Hall is that would be convenient for me and FH to go to to get our marriage license.

We got ours at City Hall in Manhattan just because they have it down to such a science there--the whole thing took 10 minutes. All they looked at were our passports.

I can't imagine how an insurance card is better ID than a social security card!

Where is Hemptstead Town Hall and could someone living in Jamaica, Queens obtain a marriage license there.

It's on the corner of Front Street and Washington Avenue. They're open 8am - 4:45pm. You have to use the entrance on Washington.
