sisters...

does anyone have two sisters (older, unmarried) who are giving you a hard time with everything 'wedding'?? i.e. being unsupportive, being very verbal about how little they like the dress THEY picked out (but i picked the color), shutting you out (playing 2 against 1).....Its gotten to a point where im about to break. my sisters are 30 and 34 and have been in one wedding each so far (gasp!!!! ive been in 4) and therefore dont understnad the meaning of keeping their mouths shut. they are my MOH's together but sometimes i just wish i didnt have them. They can be very hurtful and dont realize that the lack of support relates to me as not wanting to be a part of my day. I hate being selfish, im not like that and there is truly not to much i am pointedly picky about regarding my wedding - but it jsut seems like they can never be pleased. Already complaining abuot money its going to cost for bah party and for shower and the other weddings they will have to attend on '07.....I've been so upset I just dont know how to deal with it. Can anyone relate??

Re: sisters...

I have 2 older sister's as well.

One of my sisters (The eldest) is very into the wedding and can't wait, my other one not so much. She was engaged once and it did not work out ,so maybe there is some anger/jealousy in a way that is coming out. My heart breaks for her and deep down inside I know she is so happy for me, but can't help to reflect on her own life. I think it is a natural feeling to have and yeah it does suck, because like yourself I am sure out of everyone our sister's should be standing strong, by our side and willing to do anything.

I say just try to not take it personal as hard as it is and in the end, they will be there for you every step of the way.

its so frustrating. I just talked to my eldest tonight and i said to her- i wish you had gone through this so you would have a feeling of what im going through. you would understnad how i feel abuot needing support. and she said 'k- thats what ive been doing my whole life - -paving the way for you so you dont make mistakes that i did...' soooo are you teaching me a 'lesson' now? this is my wedding for petes sake. my mother just says to let it go, and it will pass- but its been ongoing for quite some time. they dont understand the changes that i have gone through- i.e moving out of NYC and into CT with FH, and how im not near my family or my friends anymore.....its not been a cakewalk for me....and having them team up on me is not helping.

First off
It ***** and I feel for you. I am the baby out of 5 and the first one to have an actual Wedding. Everyone is excitied, but FH & I are pretty much doing everything on our own. I am sorry that your sister has the attitude that she does, just try to not let her bring you down.

I don't have any sisters so I can't relate, but honestly-I would say something. They should be supporting you, not hurting you.

I don't have sisters either! I wish I did!
But maybe talk to yours and tell them how you feel!

I have 3 older sisters, 2 of which are married and 2 are my maid and matron of honor. My matron of honor (jeanla4c) is THE BEST! She is really great since she got married a year and a half ago- very supportive of everything that Matt and I plan. My maid of honor (I love her to death as well) but she isn't married and I think that is where a lot of the resentment comes from- even though she tells my family she doesn't want to be married right now. Every now and then she has her moments where she is so supportive, but more so than not, it's the other way around. In the end, I know she will be great on the day of, so for the most part, I always seem to talk to my matron of honor about wedding details.

good luck

Re: sisters...

I completely hear you. I have an older unmarried sister and she's been dragging her feet on EVERYTHING since day 1. Doesn't like dresses b/c she can't find one in her size to try on and they cost so much. Doesn't want to talk about planning the bridal shower b/c it's not until next year (now it's Jan and nothing's done). Like you, I don't feel that I'm demanding and I'm really not a bridezilla but it would be nice to know that she cares and does want to help. I specifically didn't have a large bridal party b/c I didn't want to deal with bridesmaid drama and I still got a ton of that. And it's only her and my unmarried best friend. All I can say is best of luck, I know in the end they don't mean us ill will but they can't help being resentful b/c things haven't turned out the way they wanted. Thankfully we have supportive parents and friends who although they aren't officially in the bridal party have been nothing but helpful since the beginning. Feel free to FM me if you want to talk more about this.
