I had always heard that buffet wsa cheaper, but when I looked at different halls..I really didnt see too much of a difference. Buffets can even be more expensive! ( Depends on what you have at the buffet). Thats all I know..sorry Im not much help!!

I've heard mixed things...that they are cheaper and that they are the same...and I would imagine that if you were to add some extravegant items it would be more expensive...

what I do know is that at my 10 year HS reunion it was buffet at the Woodbury CC and the price was $95...much more than I would like to pay...but it did included everything from booklets, dj, etc...so I would assume that you can get it for less if you want...

I think the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling may have this option...but its for smaller weddings

I've heard it could be the same as well -

I think a lot of places only offer bouf. for certain times of day not later in the night

Most places I went to it was the same price. I believe the Mid Island Country Club has a cheaper buffet, maybe East Wind too.

Yeah - it isn't intuitive, but buffet isn't necessarily cheaper. Even though staffing costs are lower for buffets than for sit-down service, the caterers have to replenish the food a lot to make sure it doesn't look picked over and they can't limit the amount of food everyone will eat.

I think sometime at certain places buffet is a little bit cheaper.
But it can also be more expensive too at other places. So, I guess you just have to shop around if you really want a buffet.

I had a cocktail reception. It's like a buffet but instead of one long table it was food stations set up all over the room and the food was served all night (until cake). The price was the same as a sit down dinner...but it was worth it. People loved it! FM me if you have any questions.

My place offered buffet and it was five dollars cheaper. I would have loved the buffet, but it definitly would have taken away the whole coctail hour.

My place told me that a buffet would be a little more since the food would have to be replenished versus a dinner where they get their meal and taht's it. Makes sense to me.....

From the catering halls that I visited, buffet styles seemed to be cheaper. (Remember that whatever style you choose - negotiate! You will get a better price than the first offer.) Good luck!

Besides looking at the cost point of view, buffet style dinners are not the best idea if you are inviting older people to the wedding. MOst of the time the buffet is across the room (dance floor) and many people prefer not to walk to get their food especially in high heels.
