skipping the garter toss

skipping the garter toss

I'd rather skip it, too, but my fiance wants to do the garter toss and have me toss the bouquet (which I would really rather not do, but I'll do it anyway).

I notice more couples are foregoing this tradition. We have decided to skip the garter and bouquet toss. Our decision was reaffirmed when I was told by my parents they went to a wedding where the girl who caught the bouquet was considered "undesirable" by the guys. Not one guy got up for the garter toss because of this. It was very embarassing and the brides father had to volunteer to put the garter on the girl.

Do what makes you happy and don't worry about those single guys. There will be another wedding they can catch the garter at.

We actually made it a presentation. Paul's aunt and uncle have been married for 71 years!!! Paul said a few words about them and how they were an inspiration to us and we both presented them w/the bouquet.

They then got up and danced for all of us. It meant the world to them. Aunt Edy was glowing like a bride herself and they're still talking about it months later!

I highly recommend it - much better than the bouquet and garter. When I was single, I hated that stuff! LOL

Way outdated. We're not doing it either. Most of our friends are single. I asked them how they felt about it and almost all of them said they would rather not catch the bouquet. As for the garter toss, The last wedding I was at a 15 year old girl caught the bouquet and the garter was caught by a 45 year old guy. Not cool at all for that 14 year olds parents I'm sure. We were thinking about the anniversary dance.

Just out of curiousity- what exactly is the anniversary dance?

I also delivered all the place cards, favors, cameras, toasting glasses, etc. in advance so they could set up. (they also should pack all that stuff up for you at the end of the night and give them to you in a box) Your matre d should be coordinating your wishes - as well as the coordinating the location and needs of all subcontractors. Its a good idea to assign 1 bad cop to double check, but you'll find that the logistics will be handled by the reception place. That's what you're paying them for.

****Be sure to give all your contracts to your 'bad cop'. If there is a dispute, that's what you'll need to refer to. ******

We are definitely skipping the garter/bouquet thing and going with the anniversary dance instead. I never heard of it until my DJ suggested it and we like the idea alot. The "countup" sounds like fun.
