Sleep Positioner ~ Do I Really Need It??

Sleep Positioner ~ Do I Really Need It??

Okay, here's the deal. I have a sleep possitioner in Nicky's bassinet. He doesn't roll over yet (obviously! ), but I thought I needed it anyway. Every night he wiggles down in the bassinet until his face is between the positioners. I'm so worried that his little nose will end up pressed against it one of these nights and he'll suffocate.

Can I take it out, or do I need it??

That's my dilemma right now. I say take it away. My friend (you know the one with the baby w/all that hair?) never used it for the same reason as Nicky. I'm going to take it away from Gianna because she's also been wiggling down near the sides and then the blankets come up and all bunched up. It makes me extremely nervous!

Damien did the same thing, I say take it out. I would wake in a panic when I would see his face pushed into the side That's the whole reason for sleeping them on their backs, so they don't smother themselves

I used to lay John Anthony in it on his side, because I was always afraid of the gag reflex if he was on his back
I only found it useful if it prevented him from turning onto his back from his side, because I felt better if he were on his side... but John always put him on his back, so there went my theory..
We really never used it religiously, it was like one of those things that we just stopped using earlier than we thought...

I posted about this thing. Bought it, used it less than a week, and it now sits in the basement with the bassinet and all of Sean's 0 (like that ever happened ) to 9 month clothes!!

My son is a 'schoocher', too. If it were up to him, he'd be running around the house by now!

I used mine only during the first 6 weeks, while she was in the bassinet. After that, she moved around too much, and found it restricting, so I stopped using it.

This is JMO - but, I don't think you even need it at all. We only tried to use Paul's a few times, and aside from him 'scooching' out of it, it really didn't keep him from moving. I say take it out.

Jen,

I agree ... It makes me nervous! the nurses @ the hospital said not to use it for exactly the reason you've mentioned. When he's ready to roll, they suggested using the Pack-n-play if you're not ready to put him to sleep in his own room. This way he'll have more since he's outgrown the bassinet.
