I have sleep issues and am trying to gauge how 'off' am. I struggle with feeling rested, and battle lots of nightmares. I am currently working on dealing with what the nightmares are REALLY about, but was hoping to get an idea of the average persons input on the following:
How many hours of sleep you get per night?:
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?:
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?:
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?:
Thank You!

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: Usually around 6
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: No I am not a morning person and every morning I feel exhausted
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: I'm starting to think maybe.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: I rarely remember my dreams...I used to have nightmares when I was younger...a psychologist friend said they are usually brought on by stress...to try to relax before bed.

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: 6-7
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: No
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: Huge? Maybe not but definite, yes.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: Never
My 6-7 hours is only if I fall asleep relatively quickly (for me, under a half hour) and maybe just get up once to got to the bathroom & fall back asleep quickly.
I toss & turn a lot, though, and once I'm up, take a while to fall back. I'm also not working now, so I can stay in bed later. If I was working, I think I'd be getting five hours on average.

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: About 6-7
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?:Never, I am ALWAYS tired. This has been going on my entire life.
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: For me, i sleep better with lots of pillows and I sleep better with a firm mattress (less tossing & turning, less feeling the matress squeek, less movement from me) and I like the room to be cold and for me to buddle up under the covers, it helps me feel secure.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: I hardly have nightmares only once in a while and they consist of me waking up thinking I have spideers or snakes on me for some odd reason. But I have very VIVID dreams. I always wake up tired from working so hard in my dream (whether it's a fight with someone, or I'm running in the dream or struggling to fix some big issue, etc ...)
Good luck and feel better!

OMG I have the same dream that spiders are coming down from the ceiling onto me! I wake up screaming and DH has to hug me and hold me til I calm down enough to go back to sleep (which is usually before him since he gets so shaken by me screaming!).

Re: Sleep Questions...
1. I get about 8 hrs a night. Since getting PG, I can't keep my eyes open after a certain time so I usually get to bed at a decent hour. However, lately, it has not been peaceful sleep. I've been waking up alot during the night due to discomfort or other pg related things that you really don't want to know about.
2. On the average night, yes I do feel rested when I wake up but you'll see why in my next answer...
3. The new mattress we got (Tempurpedic) DEFINITELY has had a tremendous, noticeable impact on our restfulness. There's alot less tossing and turning, neck and/or back pain since we got the mattress (for both of us) so sleep is deep and peaceful. Before that we had a 10 yr old sagging mattress that was painful and kept us both tossing and turning all night. Since getting the new mattress, I don't even feel a strong need to sleep in on the weekends. I'm usually up around 7am, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed.
4. The nightmares come and go for me. There are times where I go a straight couple of weeks with very disturbing nightmares. But then I'll go months without having a single one.

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: Probably 6-7 hours.
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: Not usually, but it is rare for me to sleep through the night. I usually wake up at least once to use the bathroom. Sometimes twice. And I often wake up a half hour before the alarm goes off.
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: Absolutely. When DH and I moved in together, we slept on a full sized mattress. A little too much togetherness, really. Also, the bed creaked and squeaked terribly- if he or I turned over I would wake up! We got a queen bed when we got our new apt. and the difference was amazing.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: Not too often, thankfully. Less than once a month.
I must confess to relying on Nyquil and stuff like that too often. I have trouble falling asleep.

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: Pre-pregnancy, about 6-7, during pregnancy, about 8-10
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: Nope
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: Probably. We have a fairly new king size mattress, so I do sleep better on that as compared to my old crappy mattress
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: During pregnancy, probably every other night or so. I find that I have more nightmares when I don't get a restful night's sleep. If I keep waking up, I have lots of short nightmares during the night. Before the pregnancy, I used to have nightmares about 1-2 times a week. Really disturbing ones too. Usually more so when I'm stressed, fighting with a friend or with DH.
Thank You!

Isn't it awful? I have to turn the light on and search through the entire bed and under the bed because the dreams are so real. So weird!

It does seem so vivid and real. I feel bad because I scare my DH so much! It happens more often when I am stressed about something.

Does it? I never thought about it, I'll have to see when it happens next time if it's because I am stressed. Once when I still lived home I actually had to go into my parents room and wake my mother up from a sound sleep because I was so freaked out. She had to check eveything for me because I was convinced there were garden snakes all over the bed. And no matter how much I checked I couldn't believe there weren't any at all.

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: Anywhere from 5-7 during the week.. usually at least 8-10 on weekends
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?:Not at all.
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: The mattress - yes. Bedding, not so much. Dh and I actually used to sleep on a full sized mattress together and it was HORRIBLE. The queen is much better, however I'm not satisifed with the way our relatively new mattress is holding up, so I think I'm about to call and compaling (we paid a BUNDLE for our Sterns & Foster and its already sagging in the middle I do like the room on the cold side so I can bundle up with lots of blankies, though
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: I don't often have nightmares, but when I do they are VIVID and SCARY that I am shaking when I wake up or having sort of a panic attack. Sometimes DH says I wake up from nightmares shortly after I've fallen asleep and am close to tears but I truly don't remember those. I often have horrible dreams having to do with loved ones dying in horrible circustances.. they linger with me for days

Re: Sleep Questions...
How many hours of sleep you get per night?: I need a solid 8, usually get 7-8. I have read lots of articles that say if you are getting less than 7-8 a night, you will be tired and you should try to go to bed at the same time every night if possible, including weekends.
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: Yes
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: YES! I sleep much better now, on the bed that was DH's, than my old bed - it's a better quality bed.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: Rarely

Re: Sleep Questions...
Wow - it's amazing how few people do not feel rested in the AM (as I push on the gigantic knot in my neck and pray it stops hurting) That makes me feel a little better.
Jimmysbride - your post awhile back on the Tempurpedic has us seriously thinking about one...thanks for the input. I have read mixed reviews on it on various websites, but the people who love it, really love it - I think it works well for the right candidates. (We are curious about the 'bounce' (or lack of) factor though... )
Keep em coming - this is really interesting.

How many hours of sleep you get per night?: On a week night, around 6-7. On a weekend, ususally 8-9
On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up?: Almost never.
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: Absolutely. I think we made a bad choice with our mattress..my back always hurts and I toss and turn a lot.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: rarely - I have really strange dreams though.

On an average night, do you feel rested when you wake up? No. I always seem to be tired.
Do you think the type of mattress and bedding you have has a huge impact on your sleep/restfullness?: Definitely size of mattress--I didn't sleep at all with both of us on the full--now we have a king it is soo much better. Bedding I don't think so, but I love my jersey knit sheets.
How often do you have nightmares (the disturbing kind that you can't shake in the AM)?: When I am stressed, frequently. Under normal circumstances, maybe once a month?
