Sleeping at night...

Sleeping at night...

I know this may sound stupid, but they say you should put the baby in the crib before they fall asleep so they learn how to fall asleep on their own throughout the night. Well, how can you do that if the baby will do nothing but scream and cry because they do not want to be in there? I can get Caiden ready for bed, and maybe put him in there with some toys, but I just can't see him laying down after a while and just going to sleep? How does this work, and how does everyone else do this? I should of done this when he was little!!!

I put Nick in his crib at about 10:00 - 10:30 pm regardless of whether he is already sleeping or still awake. WHen he is wide awake, all I have to do is turn on the Ocean WOnders Aquarium and he is out like a light immediately! That Aquarium is a lifesaver - he LOVES it. I only wish it would play for more than 5 minutes (it automatically shuts off after that). Nick is 10 weeks old now - I have been doing this since he was about 6 weeks old. Now if I could only get him to stay alseep in the crib for more than 5 hours!!
Do you have the Aquarium or anything like it? It really works.

I do have that... all Caiden does now is play with it. And since his mattress has to be on the lowest level, he needs to climb up to it.

Here in Ireland we have a show called the baby whisperer. I am not sure if it airs in the States. Anyway, this woman is a miracle worker with babies, it is amazing. For babies who have a hard time falling asleep in their cribs she recommends a method called pick up put down. Here's how it goes, when you put Caiden to bed and he starts to cry. Pick him up and console him, speak to him in a light voice and once he calms down put him back in his crib and stay in the room with him. Each time he cries repeat the process until he falls asleep. It may take up to an hour the 1st few times but after that he should be able to fall asleep on his own. Maybe you could start with naptime and work your way up to bedtime.

Since I don't have a baby, I don't know if the method is foolproof but maybe she makes it work on TV.

Melissa not sure how many times I can tell you to buy the Ferberize book but you need to buy it and read it.
.The book you need
It has worked for MANY parents and MANY swear by the method. It is hard to explain something via a chat board when you really need to understand the whole book. It is a VERY hard thing for a few days because you have to listen to them scream and cry...often for over an hour. But after a few days, people I know swear that the baby is easy to put down to bed.

There are also NO-cry books out there. The No Cry Sleep Solution is one of them.
