Sleeping on their tummies ?

Sleeping on their tummies ?

John Anthony is now rolling himself over to sleep on his tummy. I know in the first few months, its dangerous due to SIDS risk, but at this point, when they can lift their own heads, and roll themselves back around it should be fine right ?

I remember worrying when my nephew was doing it at 6m old, and sure enough he'd just lift himself up and move around when he was uncomfortable.

Its pretty much something inevitable now, unless you stand by their bed the whole night..right ?

Definitely inevitable. I dont think those positional sleepers are recommended above 6 months either. You're supposed to let them roll and find their own position. I put Luke to bed on his side and he rolls onto his belly more often than onto his back. But it's his choice which way is more comfy. I also find him in all kinds of positions, lately he's been waking himself up because he rolls around so much and then he gets in a position that he can't get out of in his sleeping state. But he can lift his head and breathe and move it around so I am not worried, we just have to go in and reposition him, I'm sure it will pass. 'They' say to remove the bumpers when they can move around but I think he might be worse off if he hits his head on the crib slats, IMO.

edited to add: I can't see how the positional sleepers would work past 6 months anyway - I'm sure John Anthony can rolls right out of it like Luke could if we used one. He rolls over toys and pillows already.

I havent used the positional sleeper since he was about a month old ! We just stopped using it.. He would stay on his back...

JA rolls over, ALL Over I find him upside down on the other side of the bed, kick his feet up. once in a while in the packnplay he gets himself where he cant undo himself either, lol.

THEYRE TOO CUTE !

once they roll over there is no stopping them. I used to find Justin in positions and have no idea how he did that!!! I wouldn't be concerned, he is past the 6 month mark so everything will be fine

Yep I agree with everyone. Once they can determine how they want to be you let them be (after 6 months old). My ped. said if SIDS were going to occure the baby would have to have some sort of neurological disorder and no matter how he/she was sleeping nothing would help.

I put Emma in her crib one way. I wake up in the AM and she is completly turned around with her head shoved into a corner and but in the air. They are cute.
