slight vent: dress envy

slight vent: dress envy

i just came back from a brunch for FSIL and her future ILs. they're having this posh wedding in boston this october, and she was talking about this melissa sweet gown she bought.

i finally managed to make myself feel better about not being able to afford the amalia carrara that i'm in love with, and now i'm just hopelessly jealous and feeling bad about the dresses i'm considering.

thanks for reading; i just needed to be a baby about for a few seconds.

Omg. I totally know what you mean. I keep seeing all these fancy girls at my office planning their super expensive platinum weddings...they just keep mentioning how casually they're going to all these expensive store and they don't even seem to appreciate all the money their parents are giving them for their weddings!!! I'm in LOVE LOVE LOVE with the Melissa Sweet dress Fern and there is NO way I can afford it. So, I totally know what you're saying....FH's first cousin had a platinum wedding at the Plaza and she is the nicest girl in the world but a part of me is nervous my wedding won't be as posh as hers and I'll feel bad about it...

...hope you don't mind I joined in on the vent!!

Girls..don't compare yourselves to others..everyones wedding is unique and beautiful no matter how much money was put into it. Honestly, when it comes to dresses SOME may look cheaper than others, but I've yet to see a cheapie looking dress on this site, I'm sure your dresses are just as beautiful, no matter what the price tag.

Honestly, with the wedding I've been to, the BEST are when you can tell how in love the couple is and how much of themselves was put into the wedding..

I know its very easy to get caught up and jealous, but just be proud of the things you and FH choose and proud of how much of your own money and time went into a day to celebrate your love!

One of the best weddings I have ever been to served fried chicken and keg beer, it was the best time I have ever ever had. I also went to one that was breathtaking in the St . Regis (cost well over $300K) it was absolutely gorgeous but kind of boring as well.

I understand the envy. It is hard to be on a budget. I think it is really great to pick one totally luxe thing and splurge. For me, it was my photog (way more than I thought I would spend). Maybe you totally go all out on shoes, or maybe it is as simple as getting a fabulous luxury pedicure for yourself. Budgets can easily get out of control but I think it is nice to pick something and splurge a little to treat yourself.

I totally know how you feel...!! There are a bunch of our close friends ALSO getting married next year..and ALL they talk about is how much everything is costing ... THEIR PARENTS! They make jokes and can go ALL OUT...me and FH on the other hand are paying 90% of the wedding...so we have a tight tight budget. There's this one girl that spend almost 5G on her dress...when I showed her the Alfred Angelo dress I looove...she stuck her nose up! EW! lol. Just breath, and care only about your wedding... do what makes YOU happy. All the guests aren't gonna know how much you spent on your gown...and they arent' going to care. They are going to see a beautiful bride no matter how you look at it.

Awww! Seriously though- you are going to look GORGEOUS! Don't worry about the pricey dresses other people may have!

They are so expensive! I actually wore a Melissa Sweet, which I bought at the Saks sample sale and it was a 1/4 of the price. Definitely check it out. Maybe your Amalia Carrera dress is there!

that's the bottom line for me. i could find the money, but the dress costs as much as our whole trip for 2 to europe for 12 days not to mention a nice chunk of a down payment on a house or an entire new wardrobe! FSIL is in her late forties and works as a PA who does heart surgery for a living. she is in a different place and can afford to spend that kind of money on a dress. it just s ucked to talk about the wedding with her for 4 hours yesterday.

No matter what dress you get, you will be beautiful and no matter how much you spend, you will look rich and fulfilled because it will be YOUR special day and you and FHs love with shine through and make everything look FABULOUS!!!!

Awww, seriously though- don't feel bad. Weddings are about love and celebration- not about the money spent on them. When people look at the monetary aspect of a wedding, they forget what it's really about. You and your FH are clearly in love and that's a beautiful thing worth celebrating!

I can totally understand how you feel. But to be honest, when you stop thinking of the wedding as a wedding- it is actually just an expensive party- it is one day. Think of how many other uses you will find for your money- like a house or something like that!

HTH!
