Slightly annoyed - kinda long rant

Slightly annoyed - kinda long rant

So, my FSIL is pregnant, and lives in Penn...my FMIL is trying to plan a baby shower for October. She was dead set on making it one of 2 particular weekends...one was not good for me, so I asked for it not to be that one. Well, apparently the other one was not good for someone else, so she picked a third random weekend, without even consulting me. So I haven't heard anything about it, so I asked, on when did you decide for the baby shower?

She told me 10/29. I'm out of town this weekend. She never asked about this date or anything. In fact, when someone suggested it previously she said 'Oh I don't want to do it Halloween weekend' so it never crossed my mind to bring up that I was busy. I mentioned that day is not good for me and she asked if I could just skip my plans. I have a big alumnae thing up at my school that weekend, and was really excited to see people I haven't seen in years. Now she wants me to skip it because she picked a date I couldn't do. Ugh, I don't want to upset her and disappoint her for not going, but this is kinda not fair. My FH is pissed off, because if they did it the other week I could go but his brother's new FH wouldn't be able to make it. He feels since we were engaged longer I should be more important or something, which I absolutely don't think is true! Still stinks that it seems like she's favoring them over me though

That is really annoying!! Can she push it back just 1 more week?? I would think she would want you BOTH there.

Nope, she can't push it back b/c my FBIL and his FH are going on vacation the following week for 2 weeks. She doesn't want to do it later in November because she's worried about her daughter traveling as it gets closer to the due date.

I even told her that the week she originally was looking to do it, I can just skip my plans and make work now if she wanted that one. Apparently she can't make it that for some reason now too! I'm trying to be flexible...there's only one weekend in Oct I can't make, and that's the one she's doing!

That sucks! I would just send a gift and apologize for not being able to make it.

Maybe have FH talk to her and see if he can knock some sense into her? It's really unfair that she's making you choose between something you're already committed to and the baby shower..

I can totally understand why you are annoyed..See if FH can bring it up to her and get her to try and switch it..plus the earlier weeks in October would be better for traveling since your FSIL will be furthur away from her due date

He already tried to get her to move it. Apparently every week someone can't make it. So it doesn't matter which one she picks. Since they settled on the one date without asking me, and she asked some other people about that one, and they can make it, she wants to just go with that one. I think she just expects me to cancel my plans and go. I just don't want the FSIL and FMIL to be mad at me for not going. Ugh

I think they will get over it. With happy times ahead - babies and weddings, people tend to forget about the small inconsequential stuff.

Just say how very sorry you are and you wish you could be there and offer to help with something even though you can't go - like putting the favors into a bag or buying some prizes for the games.

It's actually REALLY GREAT the FH is on your side with this.
