im planning on doing this to mine - i have a photo of it in my album. my first alteration appointment in sept 1st.
it wont be a tight mermaid, but more of a 'fit and flare'

I did this. It came out pretty good. It wasn't perfect but Im probably the only one that noticed. Only problem I had was that they could not make it as 'mermaidy' as I wanted because there was no stretch in the dress and I wouldn't have been able to move

The no-stretch aspect is my concern. I am having my mom's gown altered. It's a slim a-line, and I want it to fit to accentuate my shape, but there's no elasticity. The seamstress said she will make it as tight as she can, but I don't want it to start pulling. My second fitting is in October. Idk what to do, if I should look for other dresses as backup, in case I'm not happy with how it turns out...hm.

They should be able to do it. I wanted mine very fitted around by hips and butt but they had to loosen it up in the butt area. I still liked it a lot and had no problems moving but would have preferred it a little tighter in the back. I guess it depends on what you really want..if you really want it be completely fitted to your body you are prob going to be super uncomfortable. Have them pin it to how you want it. That's what I did, we pinned it as tight as we could and then started to loosen it until I was able to sit and move lol
