I have really bulky calves and I'd like to slim them down (mainly because I can't wear tall boots and I'm dying for a pair). Most pairs won't even zip around my legs! I lost 30 lbs recently, but I don't think I lost any weight in my calves. Are there any exercises for this? Thanks!

Re: Slimming down calves
Not really. Unfortunately, since you use your calves everyday (to walk), there's no way to slim them down other than losing some bodyfat. But even then, calves are one of those muscles that you can't shrink; you can only make them bigger. Have you tried on boots that have the stretchy top instead of the zipper?
I have the opposite problem that you do; boots are always too baggy around the calves for me!

Re: Slimming down calves
I know Jcrew has the boots with extended calf sizes, so I can do that. But I just thought that if I could shrink them, it would be a good thing. I have 20 more lbs to lose, so hopefully they will slim down a bit. They are not all muscle, and there is still some flab there. Hopefully that will do it.

I have the same problem! I am the most inactive person I know, but genetics gave me huge calf muscles! I blame my grandmother. There's really nothing you can do about it - and there are few boots that will fit comfortably...sorry

Other than J Crew, do you know any specific brands? I'm dying for a pair of black leather that come to below my knees. I guess sort of round toe, small heel.

I have man calves that I have learned to love. Look on the bright side... you will never get cankles.
JOM - don't buy the j crew boots. I spent a ton of money on these hot boots that I could squeeze my man calves into, and the heel was poorly made and started sliding out towards my heel (it should have been at 90 degree angle, but was heading towards 180)
I only wore them a few times. they weren't worth the $

Actually, I like Jcrew clothes, but I find that their shoes really aren't great. But I was searching online and Naturalizer has a really cute boot that is wide calf. Let's see if I can post a pic...Sorry to hijack the slim down board!
I have the same issue. I hate hate my legs. I got them from my Aunts on my Dads side of the family and I am the only girl cousin with huge calves. Anyway the Avenue (for plus size girls) has Cloud Walker shoe brands that have boots that will fit a bigger calve. They should be in the stores now or you could check online.

Re: Slimming down calves
There are calf exercises you can do that will tone your calf muscles. Chances are by toning up your muslces you will also lose inches. If you have lost weight (which congrats 30 lbs rocks!) you should see a slim down eventually in your calves. Look up the exercieses on the internet. Also, if you belong to a gym, they have specific machines that target just your calves and let me tell you...ouch!!!
Hope this helps.
BTW I have the J Crew knee high boots and I love um, so go get yourself a pair, reward yourself for that 30 lbs!!!

Re: Slimming down calves
It is hard to change your calves. you only lose inches by loosing fat. Training your muscles hard(your entire body) will help you lose fat because your metabolism will rise. You need to do cardio and have a clean healthy diet that is within the right calorie range for you to lose the fat. the fat will be lost throughout your body, NOT in specific areas.
Hope this helps.

Re: Slimming down calves
Thanks, girls. I've been doing step and cardioboxing classes each week, so hopefully that will help me lose some more fat overall (believe me, I still have a bunch to lose!). I also alternate with muscle classes.
