small dinner party
I am considering having my ceremony in a church and then holding a dinner for about 50-60 people at a restaurant afterwards. No dancing/band/dj/no hoopla. Has anyone ever done this before? Any suggestions/comments? Thanks.

I think that sounds lovely, elegant and intimate. You'll really get to spend time with your guests this way.
Would you wear your dress to the restaurant? Would you change? Where would you change? How long after the ceremony would you hold the dinner?
We were also thinking of doing the same thing...
I was thinking of a church ceremony...wearing a simple dress...nothing too poofy this way I could also be very comfortable. I`ve seen nice white gowns in some department stores...or perhaps a really nice white bridesmaid dress...I would definitely wear the dress to the restaurant and hold the dinner within an hour of the church...What do you think? Just not sure how to work the photos. I don`t want an annoying photographer at the dinner. Maybe pics at church or a stopover in between the ceremony and dinner. Also, do you think I can hire a photographer just for like 2 hours...without doing a zillion pictures?? What are your thoughts?
I think wearing a simple dress is nice -- but wear what you want it's your day! Also you could call one of the colleges art schools and see if a student is available to take pictures. You could probably hire them for however long you want. Also just ask them to get some table shots of your guests you and your groom a cake shot -- if you are going to have cake, and just some simple shots. They don't have to stay the whole time and you can always put out some disposable cameras on the tables for guests to get some candids that the photographer may miss after they leave.
