I'm working as a sub and my FH is paying for the majority of our bills. It's nearly impossible to save. My parents paid for my dress and the reception hall. I am considering taking out a loan for less than $10,000 to pay for vendors and gifts.
Is this a bad idea?

When it comes to money I am responsible. I would pay it back ASAP with gift money from the wedding. I also plan on getting a second job after new years. I'm trying to find ways to cut down costs every second of the day!

Then for you I dont see it being a bad thing. If you need it then go for it

Maybe set a budget on what you do have...To put yourself in a hole before you are even married can add additional stress... JMO

Another option is to get a credit card that doesn't charge you interest for a year. That way, you can spend the money, pay it back and not get charged any interest at all! I know a few brides who are doing that! Just another idea......

This is what I would do. Espeically if you feel you are going to pay it back right after the wedding.

No its not a bad idea. Others are doing it too. Its crossed our mind as well. You just have to be disciplined and pay it back immediately.

Re: small loan
I did THE SAME THING!!!!!!!! I took out a loan for 10K and I got a great deal, the monthly payments are very low, under 200 bucks and I got a decent rate. I don't have to start paying untiol 3 months. We're gonna pay it back with whatever we make at the wedding!! WEDDINGS ARE SOOO EXPENSIVE!!! XOXOXO Kitty

no, but I would pay it back right away. Maybe you should get a second job instead this way you won't have to use your wedding money to pay back a loan and you will be able to start your lives with some money!

I would look into vendors first and shop around for the best prices... then, you can do the math and see if you need to take out a loan.....
who needs the added stress after the wedding? plus, it's important to remember that you can't count on making it all back on your wedding day. sometimes that happens, but often, if you've chosen very expensive vendors, etc. it doesn't so you may still be in debt!
an interest free credit card sounds good too, but some vendors do not accept credit cards, so double check.
