A few years ago he wanted a mini cooper and I bought him a remote control one for xmas......now I wish i had let him get the mini cooper. This thing is 100 times worse

NO way but not because it's ugly but because it is extremely unsafe, especially with all of the SUV's on the road. It is a death trap! JMO

i heard they're actually pretty safe b/c the whole thing is built like a roll cage.

i personally LOVE them. they get like 70 miles to the gallon too. the four seater is a little roomier, but i dunno if that one's gonna be sold here.

at least it's not the peel p50! (3 wheeler, one seater, that you drag backwards by a handle to go in reverse)

Cant beat the price of gas for it though! Also he will never have to worry about a parking spot, he can park facing the curb, not parallel!!! Probably get a free pass on the HOV lane too! A lot of +'s!

I actually like them but I am a small car lover (I drive a MINI Cooper). I just laugh when people say things like 'it's a death trap.' I rolled my convertible MINI last year and both FH and I walked away from the crash unharmed (well he had a scrape on his arm that's it). If everyone has this idea that they need to drive bigger and bigger cars, it's going to get like that Honda commercial where all the mothers are showing up to pick up their kids from school in Mack trucks and bull dozers.

The Smart cars are cute but I hear they are very expensive. Smart is owned by Mercedes, so I am thinking parts for them are going to be expensive too.

who makes that car? i would be afraid that if he got into an accident - he would be a goner (seriously, that thing would be flattened by just about anything!!)

they're apparently fairly cheap in europe but of course they're upping the prices for sales over here. it's actually made by both mercedes and swatch (the watch company). the plan was that it'de be affordable and you could go into swatch stores and buy accessories for them, including side paneling so could could change the color of your car when you wanted (they snap off and on). who know if that's gonna carry through to america. originally mercedes didn't want to sell it over here b/c they're known as a luxury car company and it went against their image, but i guess they changed their mind a bit, even though they're not advertising it all too much.

sorry, i took a history of industrial design class in college and my prof. hated cars so he only did the mini cars. very intersting.

i have to agree with ^ though. i LOVE small cars. (couldn't afford a mini coop so i got a honda fit )

I think if it's good on gas, hell why not! With the prices of gas now, I would get it!! It's like those old buggy cars in Italy.
