Smoke detectors, does anyone have two?

We have one near the bedrooms. I am wondering if we should have a 2nd one near where the boiler is.

TIA

I have two. One upstairs in our hallway and one at the top of the basement stairs. THat way that one can test for anything from the kitchen and downstairs before it could hit us in our living area or bedroom area. We have the combo fire and carbon dioxide detectors.

We have ranch. So far we have one in the hallway, I think we should get a carbon dioxide tester for the main level as well. Then install fire & carbon monoxide in the basement too. Our fire alarm is hooked up to our home alarm and is monitored 24/7. They don't have the carbon monoxide hooked up to that since they said they can be unreliable.

Thanks for letting me know what you did, that has helped me.

i was raised that you should have one in every bedroom and kitchen and living room. for our apartment, we have a smoke alarm and then a combo smoke/co2 detector b/c of the boiler room.

I think we have 4.

2 in the basement.
1 at the top of the basement stairs
1 in the hallway.

We have the smoke/carbon monoxide ones.

I have a new house (just turned one year old). The new code required the builders to put a smoke detector in each bedroom. I have another one in the upstairs hallway that's tied into the security system. Same goes for the one on the first floor and in the basement.

Dengal: you have three hooked up the the alarm, we are thinking of doing that w/one in the basement. We have a ranch so we don't have another floor. So we'd have one in the hallway and one in the basement hooked up to the alarm. Our hallway one is right where the bedrooms are so I'm not sure we need ones in the bedrooms. Where is your hallway one located?

KarenB: Our upstairs smoke detector (connected to the security system) is in the hallway outside three of the bedrooms. We have an open foyer as you walk into the house. When you walk upstairs, there are three bedrooms to the right. Before you start to walk to the bedrooms above is the smoke detector - the master bedroom is to the left. Being that you have a detector right outside the bedrooms - I think you will be safe. The one we have downstairs is close to the kitchen. You may want to get a 'manual' one for around the kitchen. I'm not implying you are a bad cook, but you never know if something were to go up in flames if you were in the bedroom. I know I have more detectors than needed, but better safe than sorry.

We live in a ranch and have 5 smoke/carbon monoxide detectors:
2 in the basement
1 in the laundry room (main floor)
1 in the hallway by the bedrooms
1 in the garage

ETA: As we've been remodeling the house, we've dismantled an old, non-functioning fire alarm system. That system had an alarm in every room.
