snow stories

Hey ladies, happy snow day....did anyone get stuck? stranded?

My parents were stuck in a car for 20 hrs from last night till 5pm today!! Traveling from the city to brooklyn!!!

I got stranded and couldn't get my car out. FH couldnt go to work since transit is all shut down.....

Re: snow stories

I didn't go to work after I looked out the window and saw a plow truck stuck as well as 3 cars (that was at 6AM)

By 1PM when FH got home we tried to go drop off a friend and got stuck 1 1/2 blocks from the house along with 5 other cars. I waited about a 1/2 hour and then went back upstairs. He finally got the car moved.

Luckily FH said he would drive me in tomorrow but I will be there early and stay later because he won't be able to pick me up on time.

I hope your parents are ok! That's terrible - 20 hrs? Oh man!!!

Hope you and FH are cozy at home now!

Re: snow stories

With all the stories of people getting stuck I have definitely changed my snow strategies. I will no longer take any chances!!!!

Re: snow stories

well I had to drive home from the Bronx to Queens yesterday during the start of it and that was not fun at all! I think there was an accident on the opposite side of the Whitestone because I saw cop cars blocking the whole thing and the traffic was really backed up.

But as far as today, we didn't have cable or internet for the entore day so FH and I watched a bunch of DVDs in the early morning. I then met up with FSIL and a friend at Juniper Park to go sledding (best time ever!).

i got stuck on the entrance ramp entering sagtakos from Vets Highway. I tried rocking my car and was stuck about 40 minutes until some nice man saw my white car stuck in the snow and used his truck to get me out and then got stuck again blocks from my house. FH was stick and was off from work anyway so he didnt have to worry

Re: snow stories

I worked Sunday and monday. I seem to work during every blizzard. Left work a bit after 730 Sunday night, holy crap, this was the worst blizzard to drive in! Could not see, but I managed to not drive off the road nor get stuck anywhere. A couple a-holes passed me while I had slowed down because I was skidding. This explains to me why so many people are always stuck around the sides of the road there, they just don't know how to drive in the snow! Got home a bit after 830. Woke up at 530 (30 min earlier than usual), FH also woke up at that time to shovel whatever other snow had fallen and got my car out into the street for me. In the car driving by 610. Didn't take me forever, and I only got slightly stuck twice, both at intersections. Someone was already stuck on the on ramp to sunrise, so I had to drive all the way down to montauk highway. Thought about turning around there and taking the ramp from the opposite side, but there were some plows and cars that didn't seem to be moving on the other side of the road, so I just kept going and hoping I saw another road I knew, which ended up being 112, took that to sunrise and the whole thing wasn't a problem. As long as you know how to drive in the snow, don't take chances and stay away from ramps because if you've been through a few storms you know they don't plow them right. And don't ever stop! Just keep coasting! LOL.
I actually got to work on time, one of very few.
BTW, I don't own a truck, I drive a Jetta. LOL.

Re: snow stories

I worked in glen cove on sunday and when I tried to get my car up the hill out of the parking lot, I couldnt friggin move. they hadnt plowed the street, i have a VW passat, so it was very low to the ground, and I have low profile tires too.

it took 5 guys from the bar to come and help push me up the hill. 25 minutes later I made it 20 yards, and still had a 30 min drive home.

I had a headache by the time i got home. No one should be allowed on the road if they do not know how to drive!!! and JUST because you have an suv does NOT make you invincible!

THAT WHITE STUFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IS CALLED A SNOW BANK..... STAY OUT OF ITTTT
