Snowboard girl, or other fitness experts...I have a queston!

So I decided that instead of taking an hour muscle class at the gym once a week (or even less if I'm lazy or can't make the class) that I would buy 5 lb weights (i also have an 8-lb set) and a resistence band to do muscle work every other day in the mornings. I just did it and my arms are my main concern. They are burning, and I did about 12 mins of work. I did a bunch of reps including pulses and also switching up 1 and 2 counts. Do you think that a consistent 15 mins every other morning will give me good results for June? Thanks!

Oh, I also want chest and back well toned. I want my legs as well but if I have to focus on one, it should be my upper half.

are you doing cardio as well? It will work, but only if you are doing cardio in conjuction with the weights.

What exercises are you doing and how many sets and reps for each?

I'm so bad with names, but lets see...

bicep curls-- 12 counts of singles, then isometric hold half way, pulse for 12. 12 counts of two counts, isometric hold, pulse for 12.

same for over-the head triceps

same for back exercises using resistence band. I sit with my legs in front of me, wrap the band around my feet and pull back and push my shoulderblades together. Isometric hold when shoulderblades are touching, then pulses (instead of halfway with biceps and triceps)

butterflies-- just a set of 12 singles (new exercise for me)

chest presses--same reps as for biceps.

1.Stop pulsing!!!! That does nothing for you but get your arms tired!
2.if you can do that many reps your weights are too light.
3. what are butterflies?
4.why would you only focus on your upper body?
you should be training your entire body.
5. Is you goal to loose fat and gain muscle?
You need to add cardio and have a clean, high protein, good carb diet.

Oh wow, pulsing is bad? That's what we do in muscle class at the university gym I go to.

Ah, need heavier weights

Butterflies work the shoulders, I thought that is what they were called.

Yes, lose fat adn gain muscle. I am doing carbs too. Hmmm, need to rethink my workout. Thanks

gat a subscription to Oxygen magazine. read it cover to cover. sometimes they contradict them selves, but generally it is a good resource.

MOST TRAINERS are not up to date on ways to train your body. classes are not the best to do becaus eyou are following what everyone else is doing, and not paying attention to your own needs.

Tell me, why is pulsing so bad? I feel like when I pulse I do get a workout on my muscles.

you need to do a full range of motion for full developement.

pulsing gets you a burn, but that is just a build up of lactic acid in your muscles, which tires them out, hindering performance and eventually results.
