So am I supposed to wait for my gown to come in...

before I purchase:

-- a corset

-- a bra (or decide to have cups sewn in)

-- bridal slip/crinoline

I'm just not 'getting' the process of fittings, I guess. How does it work? The dress comes in, I go for my first fitting with just my shoes? Oh, and tiara & veil too, I guess. Then I have to go out and buy the rest of my understuff, try it on again and THEN they begin the alterations?

I think you should have all your undergarmets before the fitting process. You should bring everything with you.

But how would I know that a particular corset that I buy will work under my gown?

I think you are supposed to have the undergarments and shoes with you because they have to fit the dress with the undergarments.

ETA: then again maybe not...do they have some 'sample' bustiers or corsets on hand for you to try on with. I remember when I was looking they had sample strapless bras for me to use.

Can you try on a corset under the sample gown?

I actually went to my first fitting with a bra that ended up not working b/c you could see the strap in the back. So I had to buy something else.

I see your point -- you don't know yet what will work best. I would say if you're having at least 2 or 3 fittings, then maybe its not crucial to have everything at the first fitting so you can see exactly what you need/want.

I'm planning on going to my first fitting with my shoes and a couple of different corsets/bras. I'll just leave the tags on and return whatever doesn't work with my gown. That's actually what the salewoman at Kleinfelds told me to do.

if yo ubring a picture of your dress to a good corsetter place (I went to georgettes in hicksville) they should be able to fit you into your undergarments. you need to have everything for that first fitting
